Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is Team Ninja’s graphic remaster of Ninja Gaiden II, released by Koei Tecmo on 23 January 2025. What Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Is
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is a remaster, not a new game. PlayStation describes it as a graphic remaster of the popular high-speed ninja action title that returns after 15 years, and Team Ninja says the stages, characters, effects and lighting have been completely redesigned for more realistic visuals. The fights, bosses and structure are the ones fans of the original know; the presentation is new.
Koei Tecmo also says the remaster brings in additional elements from the spin-off titles released after the original game, which is where the extra playable characters come from.
Combat: Weapons, Speed and Gore
The core of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is combat. Team Ninja lists a wide range of weapons and techniques, including Japanese swords, shuriken, kusarigama and tonfa, and the game is built on fast, aggressive fights against groups of enemies rather than stealth.
It is also graphic. Koei Tecmo describes gore elements such as dismemberment and blood, and states that the dismemberment feature can be switched on and off in the Options menu. PlayStation’s UAE page rates the game for players aged 18 and over.
Four Playable Characters
Ryu Hayabusa leads the story. Alongside him, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black makes Momiji, Ayane and Rachel playable, according to Koei Tecmo. Each brings a different fighting style, which gives experienced players a reason to replay stages they already know.
