Balan Wonderworld PS5 is the strangest big-budget platformer Square Enix has published in years, and the story behind it is half the reason to own it. It reunited Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka with character designer Naoto Ohshima for the first time in two decades, under a brand-new studio banner called Balan Company.

Two Sonic Legends, Reunited
Yuji Naka programmed the original Sonic the Hedgehog and co-founded Sonic Team. Naoto Ohshima designed Sonic himself, along with Doctor Eggman, and later created NiGHTS into Dreams. Their partnership defined a chunk of 1990s console gaming, and Balan Wonderworld marked their first project together in roughly twenty years.
On the Balan Wonderworld, naka directed. Ohshima handled character design and production. That pedigree is stamped across the game — the theatrical staging, the mascot silhouettes, the willingness to be openly odd — even where the execution wobbles.
Balan Wonderworld PS5 and Its 80 Costumes
On the Balan Wonderworld, the central system is the wardrobe. There are more than eighty outfits, each granting exactly one ability, and you carry three at a time and swap between them freely. The Pumpkin Puncher smashes through enemies and blocked paths. The Air Cat lets you walk on empty air for a limited stretch. Others let you freeze water, shrink, float, or dig.
On the Balan Wonderworld, because each costume does one thing, progress is about recognising which of your three suits solves the obstacle in front of you, then finding the costume a level was secretly designed around. It is a genuinely unusual structure for a 3D platformer, closer to a collection puzzle than a moveset.
Leo, Emma and the Twelve Tales
On the Balan Wonderworld, you play as Leo Craig or Emma Cole, two children carrying private anxieties, who are led by an enigmatic top-hatted maestro named Balan into Wonderworld — a realm built from the contents of human hearts. Twelve chapters each belong to a different person whose happiness has fallen out of balance, and each ends by restoring it.
The whole thing is presented as a stage show, with curtains, orchestral music and no spoken dialogue at all. Square Enix has more on the concept at the official Balan Wonderworld page.

Local Co-op and Joint Play
On the Balan Wonderworld, two players can explore the same stages together on one console, each wearing their own costumes and combining abilities to reach places a single player cannot. When both stand close together, the Joint Play feature lets them use their costume powers simultaneously. It is a straightforward, couch-friendly setup with no online requirement, which makes this a reasonable pick for families.

An Honest Word on Reception
On the Balan Wonderworld, we would rather tell you plainly: critics were harsh on this one. Common complaints were a one-button control scheme that feels limiting, costumes that overlap heavily, and pacing that drags. It did not land the way its creators hoped.
On the Balan Wonderworld, what it does have is a visual identity nothing else on PlayStation 5 shares, a soundtrack worth hearing, a genuinely kind story for younger players, and a place in gaming history as the last major console release from two of the medium’s most important designers working together. Plenty of collectors want it for exactly that reason, and children who play it without reading reviews tend to enjoy it a great deal.

FAQ – Balan Wonderworld PS5
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, and children are arguably its best audience. There is no violence beyond cartoon bopping, no dialogue to read, and the themes are about kindness and confidence.
Does it support two players?
Yes, two-player local co-op on one console. There is no online multiplayer.
Why is it so cheap compared to other Square Enix games?
On the Balan Wonderworld, it sold poorly after a difficult critical reception, so prices dropped quickly and stayed low. For a full-scale 3D platformer with this pedigree, that makes it unusually good value.
How long does it take to complete?
On the Balan Wonderworld, around twelve to fifteen hours for the main chapters, considerably longer if you collect every statue and costume.
Is this the PS5 version or a PS4 disc?
This is the native PlayStation 5 release, not a backward-compatible PS4 copy.
Does Totot deliver across the UAE?
Yes. We ship nationwide via Aramex for a fixed AED 10, with cash on delivery, Tabby and Tamara available at checkout.
