The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P is the step-up model in DJI’s seventh-generation phone gimbal line. On top of the same 3-axis stabilization as the Osmo Mobile 7, it adds a built-in extension rod that reaches 215 mm, a side wheel for zoom, focus and the fill light, and, most importantly, the Multifunctional Module in the box. That module lets the gimbal track you in your phone’s own camera app and in apps like TikTok and Instagram, lights your face, and receives audio from DJI Mic 2 or DJI Mic Mini transmitters. The Multifunctional Module: tracking outside the DJI app
Most phone gimbals only track subjects inside their own app. With the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P, the included Multifunctional Module handles tracking itself, so it works in the phone’s native camera app and in third-party apps that DJI names, including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Blackmagic Camera and Protake, with either the front or rear camera. For creators who shoot straight into a social app or prefer a pro camera app, that removes the need to film in DJI Mimo and export afterwards. The module sleeps after five minutes without use and wakes when you press the gimbal trigger, which helps the battery.
Fill light and DJI Mic receiver built in
On the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P, the same module carries a fill light with adjustable brightness and colour temperature, so you can lift shadows on your face indoors or match warm room lighting instead of looking washed out. It also works as a receiver for DJI Mic 2 and DJI Mic Mini transmitters: clip the transmitter on your collar and the voice goes to the phone through the gimbal, without a separate receiver plugged into the charging port. Keep in mind that the light costs runtime; DJI’s figure falls to about 4 hours with tracking on and the fill light at maximum.
A 215 mm extension rod for higher and wider shots
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P hides an extension rod inside the handle that reaches up to 215 mm. Extended, it gives you more distance for selfies and group shots, a slightly higher angle for walking vlogs, and room to get the phone over a crowd or down close to the ground. A built-in tripod, 67 mm long, sits at the base, so the rod and tripod together can stand the phone higher on a table for talking-head videos or calls. The side wheel on the handle controls zoom, focus or the fill light depending on the mode, so you adjust without touching the screen.
Stabilization, phones and the magnetic clamp
On the DJI Osmo Mobile 7P, stabilization is 3-axis and mechanical, with a maximum control speed of 120°/s and a controllable tilt range of -20° to 40°. DJI recommends phones of 170 to 300 g, 6.9 to 10 mm thick and 67 to 84 mm wide; a case is fine if the total stays within 10 mm. The enhanced magnetic clamp means mounting and removing the phone takes seconds and there is no manual balancing. Some camera features inside Mimo, such as resolution and slow motion, depend on how much each phone maker opens its camera API, and DJI keeps a compatibility list on its website.
Battery, phone charging and size
The 3350 mAh (12.06 Wh) battery gives about 10 hours by DJI’s measurement, which is taken with the gimbal balanced, level and still with no accessories. With tracking on, plan for about 5 hours, or about 4 with the fill light at full. The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P can charge your phone too; with the module attached, a double press of the M button starts or stops charging, and doing so shortens gimbal runtime. Recharging takes about 2.5 hours with a 10 W USB-C charger. It weighs about 368 g including the module and folds to 190 × 95 × 46 mm.
Who This Is Not For
The DJI Osmo Mobile 7P is heavier and larger than the Osmo Mobile 7 (about 368 g against about 300 g), so if you only need basic stabilization and will film in DJI Mimo, the cheaper 7 is enough. It does not fit phones above 300 g or thicker than 10 mm with the case. The 215 mm rod is short compared with a full selfie stick, and using the fill light and tracking together cuts runtime to about 4 hours by DJI’s own figures. Operating temperature tops out at 40 °C.
