The Ninja AF451 Dual Zone Air Fryer in Black has something no other air fryer in this range has: a digital cooking probe you push into the meat. That changes one thing fundamentally — explained below.

1. 9.5L means 2 x 4.75L, not one basket

The 9.5L figure is the total of two separate drawers of 4.75L each. There is no single 9.5L cavity.

Why does that matter? Because the largest single item you can cook is limited by one drawer, not by the total. A large whole chicken will not fit. In exchange, Ninja publishes a genuinely useful real-world figure: up to 1.4kg of fries per drawer — 2.8kg across both, which is a lot.

An honest comparison: the Xiaomi Double Stack we carry has 6L per basket — larger than 4.75L. So if your criterion is the size of a single item, Xiaomi is roomier. If your criterion is cooking accuracy, read the next section.

2. The cooking probe — the feature that actually matters

A digital cooking probe is included. You push it into the meat and it monitors the internal temperature while the food cooks. You select the food type and the doneness you want — from rare through to well done — and the unit stops when it gets there.

What problem does that solve? Without a probe you cook by time: “twenty minutes at 200°C”. Time does not know whether your chicken breast is thick or thin, or whether it came out of the fridge or the freezer. So it ends up either dried out from overcooking, or raw in the middle.

With meat specifically this is not a luxury — it is the difference between a good meal and a wasted one. Especially with chicken, where uncertainty about doneness makes people add time as insurance, and the result is dry.

The trade-off: the probe is an extra part you have to store somewhere and clean after every use. And it does nothing for fries or vegetables — it is for thick cuts.

3. Sync and Match

Two functions with self-explanatory names:

SYNC: cook two different foods on different settings, and the unit delays the faster one so both finish at the same moment. This is the practical difference from merely having “two independent zones” — not just separate settings, but both dishes reaching the table hot at the same time.

MATCH: applies the same settings to both drawers with one press — for cooking a large quantity of one thing.

4. Six functions, not fifteen

Some listings describe this model as “15-in-1”. The figure Ninja publishes is six functions: Max Crisp, Air Fry, Roast, Reheat, Dehydrate and Bake.

And six real functions are more useful than fifteen repeated names. Most “15-in-1” claims on the market are the same three or four processes labelled with different food names.

Dehydrate deserves a note: it works for dried fruit and jerky, and it takes hours rather than minutes.

5. Ninja’s claims, with their published conditions

Ninja publishes two marketing figures, and we quote them with their conditions rather than stripped of them:

“Up to 75% less fat” — the published condition: compared with traditional deep-frying methods. So the comparison is against frying in a pan of oil, not against an oven.

“Save up to 65%” on energy — the published condition is more specific still: compared with a conventional oven, and tested with sausages. Sausages need not give the same result as a whole chicken or a tray of vegetables.

The honest reading: both figures are real under their stated conditions, and neither is a promise that you will cut 65% off your electricity bill on every meal.

6. The 0.8m cord — read this before ordering

The published cord length is 0.8 metres. That is very short — eighty centimetres.

What it means in practice: the socket has to be directly behind it. You cannot place this at one end of the counter with the socket at the other. And at 2470W (around 11 amps) we would not recommend a cheap extension lead — if you must use one, use a heavy-duty lead rated at 16A.

Dimensions are 41.5 x 27 x 32.5 cm and weight 8.85kg. Components are dishwasher safe — a genuine benefit when there are two drawers to wash.

7. Who this does not suit

Not for anyone cooking a large whole chicken — a single drawer is only 4.75L.

Not for a spot far from a socket — the cord is 0.8m.

Not for proving dough — there is no fermentation mode among the six functions; the Xiaomi 4.5L goes down to 40°C.

Not for anyone wanting phone control — there is no Wi-Fi and no app, unlike the Xiaomi models.
