The Harman Kardon Aura Studio 5 is the latest version of the speaker with the transparent dome, and this is the Bluetooth model in Black. Harman Kardon rates it at 160W RMS in total, shared across eight drivers that include a 143 mm subwoofer, and the drivers are arranged so sound spreads around the whole room instead of firing in one direction. It also casts ambient light patterns onto the walls around it, and that light can follow the music. The speaker runs from mains power, stays connected to two phones at once over Bluetooth 5.4, and can link with other Harman Kardon speakers through Auracast.

160W RMS split across three ways
Harman Kardon lists the output as 2 x 20W + 1 x 20W + 1 x 100W RMS, which adds up to 160W RMS. The 100W channel is there for the 143 mm subwoofer, while the rest feeds six 40 mm mid-high drivers and one 25 mm tweeter, which is why Harman Kardon describes it as a 3-way design. These are RMS ratings; Harman Kardon does not publish a peak power figure for the Harman Kardon Aura Studio 5. Frequency response is 45 Hz to 20 kHz measured at -6 dB, so the lowest bass notes roll off below 45 Hz, and the signal-to-noise ratio is 80 dB, A-weighted.
360-degree sound with Constant Sound Field
Instead of pointing at one seat, the six mid-high drivers face outwards around the body. Harman Kardon calls its approach Constant Sound Field and says it is meant to fill every corner of the room. In practice this suits a speaker on a sideboard, a coffee table or a shelf in the middle of a majlis, where people sit on several sides. It does not need to face the sofa the way a front-firing speaker does, but it sounds best with some open space around it rather than pushed into a tight corner, where the bass can become heavy.
Ambient light that follows the music
The dome is part of how the Harman Kardon Aura Studio 5 is used, not only how it looks. Light is projected through it onto the surrounding walls and ceiling, and Harman Kardon describes effects such as soft aquamarine light that ripples like water and warm, flickering firelight. The lighting can sync to the music you play, and you adjust it in the Harman Kardon One app. It creates mood in an evening room; it is not bright enough to replace a lamp, and you can switch it off when you only want sound.
Bluetooth 5.4, two phones and Auracast
This model streams over Bluetooth 5.4 with the A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6.2 profiles, and Harman Kardon says it can stay connected to up to two mobile devices at the same time, so two people can take turns choosing music without pairing again. Auracast links two or more compatible speakers so the same music plays in more than one space, and Harman Kardon also lists stereo playback with two Aura Studio 5 units. Harman Kardon sells a separate Aura Studio 5 Wi-Fi model; this Bluetooth version has no Wi-Fi, AirPlay or Chromecast.

The Harman Kardon Aura Studio 5 has no battery and runs from mains power rated at 100 to 240 V, 50/60 Hz, which covers UAE sockets. It measures 30.6 x 23.4 x 23.4 cm and weighs 4.2 kg, so it is meant to stay in one place. The USB-C port is rated 5V DC, 0.5A; Harman Kardon notes that USB audio playback works on the US version only, and on other versions the port is for service. Who This Is Not For
The Harman Kardon Aura Studio 5 is not a portable speaker: there is no battery, it weighs 4.2 kg and Harman Kardon lists no water or dust rating, so keep it indoors. This Bluetooth model cannot join AirPlay, Chromecast or a Wi-Fi multi-room system, and Harman Kardon lists no 3.5 mm aux input, so you cannot wire it to a TV or turntable. If you want a clear left-right stereo image from one box for films, a soundbar or a pair of speakers does that better; a second Aura Studio 5 is needed for stereo.
