Aware Mode lets the outside world through, and ActiveSense is the system that steps in when the outside world suddenly gets loud — a passing train, a siren, an announcement. On the previous generation those interventions could be abrupt.

Bose rewrote the algorithm so the cancellation level changes smoothly rather than in a jump, which keeps your audio from being momentarily swamped while the system reacts. It is a small refinement that shows up constantly on a commute.

White Smoke is a soft off-white rather than a bright white, which keeps it calm on camera under office lighting or a ring light. On this generation the polished mirror yokes read as jewellery against the pale finish rather than as an accent.

Pale protein leather does pick up marks from skin and hair products faster than dark finishes, so the cushions want a wipe every few weeks. They are removable and replaceable, which limits how much that matters over years of use. Black asks for none of this.
