The JBL Bar 1000MK2 is a full home cinema sound system in one box: a soundbar, a wireless subwoofer and two surround speakers that detach from the bar and run on battery. JBL lists 7.1.4 channels, 960W RMS in total, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, 3 HDMI inputs with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ passthrough, and AirPlay and Google Cast for music.

7.1.4 channels and 960W

JBL rates the JBL Bar 1000MK2 as a 7.1.4-channel system with 960W RMS: 500W from the soundbar, 2 × 80W from the surrounds and 300W from the subwoofer. The frequency response is 33Hz–20kHz at −6dB.

The soundbar has six 44 × 80mm racetrack drivers, two 1-inch tweeters and two 2.75-inch up-firing drivers for height. Each surround adds a racetrack driver and an up-firing driver, and the subwoofer uses a 10-inch driver.

Detachable surround speakers

The two surround speakers clip onto the ends of the soundbar and detach for movie nights. Placed behind you, they run on battery for up to 10 hours, according to JBL, then return to the bar to charge.

HDMI and TV connection

The JBL Bar 1000MK2 has 3 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output with eARC, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ passthrough. That lets you connect a console, a streaming box and a receiver directly to the bar, then run one cable to the TV.

Streaming and wireless

JBL lists Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax, 2.4 and 5GHz) and Bluetooth 5.3, with AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Roon Ready for music from your phone or computer.

It is not for a small bedroom or a studio flat: a 9.1kg subwoofer and 960W are built for a living room. It is not for anyone who wants 8K passthrough, because JBL lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ passthrough, not 8K. The detachable surrounds need charging after up to 10 hours, so they are not a permanent wired rear setup.
