The JBL Boombox 4 Blue is the top portable speaker in JBL’s range, finished in blue from grille to handle. JBL rates it at 210W RMS when it runs from the wall and 200W RMS on battery, both continuous figures rather than peak. The battery is rated for up to 28 hours, or up to 34 hours with Playtime Boost, and for the first time on a Boombox you can take the battery out and replace it yourself. The body is sealed to IP68, and Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast lets you stereo pair two units. If you want the full Boombox 4 sound with a colour that stands out on a beach or a boat deck, the blue version is the one to pick.

Why choose the blue JBL Boombox 4
Black is the safe default, but a blue JBL Boombox 4 is easier to spot across a crowded beach, a campsite at dusk or the deck of a boat, and it looks at home next to water, which is exactly where this IP68 speaker is meant to live. Blue also hides sand and light dust better than white, and shows scuffs less than a pale finish after a season of being carried in and out of the car. The fabric grille can be rinsed with fresh water after a day at the sea. Choose the JBL Boombox 4 Blue if the speaker will spend most of its life outdoors and you want it to look like part of the gear rather than a black box.
210W RMS on mains, 200W RMS on battery
JBL publishes two power ratings, and both are RMS. On AC power the JBL Boombox 4 Blue runs 2 × 65W RMS for the woofers and 2 × 40W RMS for the tweeters, 210W in total. On battery the JBL Boombox 4 Blue drops to 2 × 60W plus 2 × 40W, 200W in total, so unplugging costs only about 5%. The drivers are two 5-inch (123 mm) woofers, two 0.75-inch (20 mm) tweeters and three passive radiators, two round and one racetrack. JBL lists a frequency response of 37 Hz to 20 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio above 80 dB. AI Sound Boost analyses the music in real time to give more power with less distortion, and a Bass Boost button on the top panel offers two bass settings. JBL does not publish a maximum SPL figure.
Battery: up to 34 hours, and you can replace it
The battery is a 99.02Wh lithium-ion pack. JBL rates the JBL Boombox 4 Blue at up to 28 hours on a single charge, and Playtime Boost adds up to 6 more hours for a maximum of 34. JBL does not state the volume used for those figures, so treat them as a best case; loud outdoor playback will shorten them. A full charge takes 3 hours. The pack is user-replaceable in three steps, and JBL sells the spare separately, so a second battery is not in the box. The speaker can also act as a powerbank to top up a phone.
IP68, size and weight
IP68 means the JBL Boombox 4 Blue is dustproof and rated for immersion, not just splashes, so sand, rain and spray from a boat are not a worry. JBL lists the size as about 51 × 26 × 21 cm and the weight as 5.89 kg, and says it was redesigned to be lighter than before despite being bigger and louder. The single wide handle on top makes the JBL Boombox 4 Blue a one-hand carry from the car, but at nearly six kilos it is something you carry on purpose. JBL uses post-consumer recycled plastic and recycled fabric for the grille, and packs it in FSC-certified paper.
Bluetooth 5.4, Auracast and lossless USB-C
Wireless playback uses Bluetooth 5.4 with A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6. Auracast lets you stereo pair two Boombox 4 speakers for a wider stage, or join other Auracast-enabled JBL speakers. For wired listening, the USB-C port accepts lossless digital audio from a laptop or other device, provided the source plays lossless content from a supported app or service. The mains input accepts 100 to 240V at 50/60 Hz, so the JBL Boombox 4 Blue runs on UAE power with the included AC cord and no adapter.
Who This Is Not For
The JBL Boombox 4 Blue is not a karaoke or party-light speaker: there is no microphone or guitar input and no light show, which the wheeled PartyBox range offers. It has no 3.5 mm AUX input, no HDMI and no optical input, so it will not take sound from a TV. At 5.89 kg and about half a metre wide it will not fit a normal backpack. The replacement battery for the JBL Boombox 4 Blue is sold separately, and JBL does not describe the speaker as floating, so do not assume it will float in a pool.
