The JBL Bar 800 is a three-part surround system: a main soundbar with up-firing drivers, two detachable wireless surround speakers and a 10-inch wireless subwoofer. JBL’s spec sheet lists 5.1.2 channels with Dolby Atmos, 720W total maximum output at 1% THD, and surround speakers that run on battery for up to 10 hours.

How the JBL Bar 800 works
The main bar plays the front channels and bounces height effects off the ceiling through two up-firing drivers. The surround speakers detach from the ends of the bar and run wirelessly on battery, rated by JBL at up to 10 hours depending on content and volume, then recharge when docked. The subwoofer is wireless and needs only a power socket.
Drivers and power
JBL lists 720W maximum output at 1% THD: 340W for the soundbar, 300W for the subwoofer and 40W for each surround speaker. The bar has three 46 × 90 mm racetrack drivers, three 20 mm tweeters and two 70 mm up-firing full-range drivers. Each surround speaker has one 46 × 90 mm racetrack driver, and the subwoofer uses a 10-inch (260 mm) driver. Frequency response is 35Hz to 20kHz at −6dB.
Connections and streaming
There is one HDMI input and one HDMI output with eARC, with HDR10 and Dolby Vision pass-through, plus an optical input. For streaming, the JBL Bar 800 has dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, AirPlay, Chromecast built-in and Alexa Multi-Room Music. JBL does not list DTS:X for this model.
Size and weight
The main bar measures 1174 × 56 × 120 mm and weighs 3.4 kg, so check your TV unit is at least that wide. JBL lists each surround speaker at 145 × 56 × 120 mm and 1.3 kg, and the subwoofer at 305 × 440.4 × 305 mm and 10 kg.
What is in the box
JBL lists the main soundbar, two wireless surround speakers, the wireless subwoofer, a remote with batteries, power cords, an HDMI cable, wall-mount brackets, side caps, a quick start guide, safety papers, a warranty card and a wall-mount template.
JBL Bar 800 or Bar 800MK2
The JBL Bar 800 has two up-firing drivers for 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos. The newer Bar 800MK2 is listed by JBL as 7.1 channels without up-firing drivers. If ceiling height effects matter to you, the Bar 800 has them.
Who the JBL Bar 800 is not for
It is not for anyone who needs several HDMI inputs, since it has one input plus eARC. It is not for DTS:X content fans, because JBL does not list DTS:X. It is not for narrow TV units under about 1.2 m, because the bar is 1174 mm wide.
