HDR OLED display

Valve lists a 7.4-inch HDR OLED touch screen at 1280 × 800, with a refresh rate up to 90Hz and a response time under 0.1 ms. Brightness reaches 1,000 nits peak for HDR content and 600 nits for standard (SDR) content. Valve lists a contrast ratio above 1,000,000:1 and 110% of the P3 colour gamut.

The resolution is 1280 × 800, lower than Full HD. That keeps games running smoothly on the handheld chip, but text and fine detail are less sharp than on a 1080p handheld.

Processor, memory and storage

The Steam Deck OLED uses a 6 nm AMD APU with a Zen 2 CPU (4 cores, 8 threads, 2.4–3.5GHz) and an RDNA 2 GPU with 8 compute units at 1.6GHz, running at 4–15W. Memory is 16GB of LPDDR5 at 6400 MT/s.

Controls

Valve lists full-size analog sticks with capacitive touch, two 32.5mm square trackpads with haptic feedback and adjustable click pressure, four assignable grip buttons, HD haptics and a 6-axis gyro. The trackpads make mouse-driven PC games easier to play than on a controller-only handheld.

Battery and charging

The Steam Deck OLED runs SteamOS 3 (Arch-based) with a KDE Plasma desktop mode. It measures 298 × 117 × 49 mm and weighs about 640 g.

Who the Steam Deck OLED is not for

It is not for anyone whose games are mostly on the Xbox app or other Windows-only launchers, because SteamOS is not Windows and some games with anti-cheat do not run on it. It is not for anyone who wants a sharp Full HD screen, because the resolution is 1280 × 800.
