Sony LinkBuds Clip Black are the low-key version of Sony’s first clip-on open earbuds, model WF-LC900. Each earbud wraps around the edge of the ear in a C shape and never goes into the ear canal, so you hear music and the room around you at the same time. Black is the colour that draws the least attention on the ear: it blends with dark hair, matches black laptop bags, gym kit and office wear, and looks the same at a client meeting as it does on an evening walk. Sony rates the battery at up to 9 hours of music per charge and up to 37 hours in total with the case.

Why choose the black finish
Clip-on earbuds are on show all day, so the colour matters more than it does with in-ear models. Sony LinkBuds Clip Black suit people who want the open-ear design without turning it into a fashion statement: the band almost disappears against dark hair and reads as a plain accessory against a suit, an abaya or a gym top. It is also the practical pick for heavy daily use, since sweat marks, sunscreen and the slight shine of wear show far less on black than on the Greige or Lavender versions. The one thing black does show is light grey dust and lint, so a quick wipe with a dry, soft cloth after a walk or workout keeps it looking new.

Open-ear sound and three listening modes
Each earbud of the Sony LinkBuds Clip Black has a 10mm driver aimed at the ear canal while leaving it open, and Sony lists a frequency response of 20Hz to 20,000Hz at 44.1kHz sampling. Double-tap to switch between three modes. Standard is for everyday listening. Voice Boost lifts voices in podcasts, videos and calls when you are on a busy street or in a mall. Sound Leakage Reduction is meant for quiet places such as an office or library, cutting how much the people beside you hear. In the Sony | Sound Connect app you get a 10-band equaliser, the Find Your Own Equaliser tool, DSEE upscaling and 360 Reality Audio; Sony says a Background Music Effect arrives with a software update from March 2026.

Clear calls with a bone conduction sensor
For calls, Sony LinkBuds Clip Black pair a bone conduction sensor, which picks up your voice through vibration, with an AI-based noise reduction system that removes background noise. The aim is that the other person hears you rather than the traffic, the wind or the office air-conditioning behind you. Sony rates continuous talk time at up to 4 hours per charge. Multipoint connection keeps the earbuds linked to two devices at once, so you can move from a Teams call on your laptop to a phone call without pairing again, which is exactly how most office users with black earbuds will use them.

Battery life and charging
For Sony LinkBuds Clip Black, Sony quotes up to 9 hours of continuous music per charge, with the case adding 28 hours for up to 37 hours in total over Bluetooth; actual time varies with settings and conditions. Standby is up to 15 hours. A full charge takes about 1.5 hours through the USB-C case, and a 3-minute quick charge gives about one hour of use. Sony does not list wireless charging, and its box contents do not include a USB cable, so you will use a cable you already own. With no active noise cancelling to power, a single charge covers most working days.

Fit, weight and water resistance
Each Sony LinkBuds Clip Black earbud weighs about 6.4g and the case about 42g, measuring roughly 50.4 × 50.4 × 32.6mm, small enough for a trouser pocket. The C-shaped band spreads the hold around the outer ear, and the removable Air Fitting Cushions can be repositioned for a firmer fit; Sony also sells optional cushions and case covers. The earbuds are rated IPX4, meaning protection against splashing water from any angle, excluding the sound hole and mic hole. Sony states that the charging case is not water resistant, so keep it out of a wet gym bag.

Connection and the rest in brief
Sony LinkBuds Clip Black use Bluetooth 5.3 with a 10-metre effective range and the SBC and AAC codecs, with the A2DP, AVRCP, HFP and HSP profiles. Sony does not list LDAC for this model. Touch controls handle playback, volume and mode switching. Sony launched LinkBuds Clip in January 2026 in Greige, Black, Lavender and Green; every colour is the same WF-LC900 with the same specifications. Sony says the packaging is made without plastic and that about 20% of the plastic in the product is recycled material.

Who This Is Not For
Sony LinkBuds Clip Black are not for flights, the metro at rush hour or anyone who wants silence: open earbuds do not block noise and have no active noise cancelling, so loud places mean turning the volume up. Some sound leaks at higher volumes even with Sound Leakage Reduction. Bass is lighter than on sealed in-ear earbuds, only SBC and AAC are supported (no LDAC), the case is not water resistant, wireless charging is not listed, and no USB cable is included.
