The Razer Cobra is Razer’s compact, lightweight wired gaming mouse. Razer puts the weight at 58 g, fits it with an 8500 DPI optical sensor and its third-generation optical switches, and adds a Speedflex cable, 100% PTFE feet and a single-zone Chroma RGB underglow. This page covers the standard black model. If you want the same shape without a cable, the Razer Cobra Pro is the wireless version, and we explain the differences below.

Table of Contents
Razer Cobra: Light, Compact and Wired
At 58 g the Razer Cobra is light enough for fast flicks without the holes of a honeycomb shell. The shape is compact and symmetrical, with two side buttons on the left, so it is laid out for right-handed players.
Being wired means no battery to charge, no receiver to lose and no extra weight from a cell, which is why a wired mouse can be this light at this price.
8500 DPI Optical Sensor, 300 IPS, 1000 Hz
Razer lists an 8500 DPI optical sensor that can be adjusted in 50 DPI steps, a maximum speed of 300 inches per second, a maximum acceleration of 35 G and a 1000 Hz polling rate. Those figures leave plenty of headroom above the sensitivities most players set, including on high-resolution monitors.
A DPI cycle button lets you switch sensitivity on the fly, and the one onboard memory profile keeps your last Razer Synapse settings even on a PC without the software.
Gen-3 Optical Switches: 90 Million Clicks
The main buttons use Razer Optical Mouse Switches Gen-3, which Razer rates for 90 million clicks with 0.2 ms actuation. Optical switches register a click with a light beam instead of a metal contact, so they do not suffer from the double-click fault that wears out mechanical switches over time.
There are 6 programmable buttons in total: left, right, scroll-wheel click, two side buttons and the DPI button.
Speedflex Cable and PTFE Feet
The Razer Speedflex cable is soft and flexible to reduce drag on the mouse, and 100% PTFE feet on the front, back and around the sensor help it glide smoothly on cloth pads. On a hard pad the glide is faster still.
If you play on a desk where the cable catches on the edge, a mouse bungee helps, but many players use the Speedflex cable as it is.
Chroma RGB Underglow and Synapse
Lighting is a single-zone gradient Chroma RGB underglow around the base, customised in Razer Synapse. Synapse also handles DPI stages, button remapping and macros. Razer lists a USB Type-A port, Windows 10 64-bit or newer and an internet connection for installing the software.
Razer Cobra vs Razer Cobra Pro
The Razer Cobra Pro uses the same compact shape but goes wireless with HyperSpeed and Bluetooth, a Focus Pro 30K sensor and 11-zone lighting, at 77 g. Choose the wired Razer Cobra if you want the lightest weight and no charging; choose the Cobra Pro if you need wireless freedom or switch between a PC and a laptop.
Who This Is Not For
Skip the Razer Cobra if you want a wireless mouse; it is wired only. Left-handed players should look elsewhere, because the side buttons sit on the left side. Players with large hands who use a palm grip may find it small. Razer Synapse runs on Windows only, so Mac users lose the software customisation, although the mouse still works as a standard USB mouse. And 8500 DPI is plenty for real-world use, but if you want the newest flagship sensor, the Cobra Pro or Razer’s higher-end mice offer more.
