PlayStation DualSense Astro Bot Limited Edition Controller – Blue Accents, Haptic Feedback, Adaptive Triggers, PS5/PC/Mac

The Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense is Sony’s official PS5 controller themed on Astro, the small robot who has been the face of the DualSense since Astro’s Playroom came installed on every PS5. Sony describes the design as Astro’s signature blue accents on the handles and buttons, carved-in sci-fi lines, and his playful pair of eyes on the touch pad. Inside it is a complete DualSense wireless controller with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, and it launched on September 6, 2024, the same day as the ASTRO BOT game.

What the Astro Bot Limited Edition Looks Like

Most special-edition controllers print a logo or artwork across the shell. The Astro Bot Limited Edition goes the other way and turns the controller into the character. The PlayStation Blog lists three elements: blue accents on the handles and buttons, carved-in lines with a sci-fi look, and Astro’s trademark pair of eyes on the touch pad. The result is a white DualSense that looks back at you when you pick it up.

Because the details are carved into the shape and picked out in colour rather than printed as a large image, the design stays clean up close. Sony does not publish the exact shade of blue or how the lines are formed, so the product photographs are the reference for colour.

Why Astro and the DualSense Belong Together

Astro has been the DualSense demonstration character from the start. ASTRO’s PLAYROOM, pre-installed on PS5 consoles, was built to show what haptic feedback and adaptive triggers could do. In announcing this controller, Sony tied it to the full ASTRO BOT game, describing haptic feedback across many textures such as grass, sand, metal and water, and adaptive triggers that match Astro’s power-ups, including the Barkster jetpack.

Sony also mentions the Dual Speeder, a flying mechanic that uses motion control, haptic feedback and adaptive triggers together, and the feel of stretching, pounding or pummelling hard surfaces. Those effects work on every DualSense, so the Astro Bot Limited Edition does not unlock anything in the game; it simply matches the character you are controlling.

Full DualSense Features on PS5, PC and Mac

Under the design is the standard DualSense feature set that Sony lists for the controller: haptic feedback with dual actuators instead of rumble motors, adaptive triggers on L2 and R2, a built-in microphone, a touch pad, a motion sensor, a built-in rechargeable battery and a USB-C port. On PS5, you pair it once over USB and it works wirelessly from then on.

Sony lists compatibility with Windows PC and Mac computers and with Android and iOS phones and tablets, over USB-C or Bluetooth. On PC, Sony notes that haptic feedback and adaptive triggers may require a USB connection and are available only when the game supports them, so plan to play wired if those effects matter to you.

Astro Bot Limited Edition Release and Launch Price

Sony revealed the controller on the PlayStation Blog on July 29, 2024, opened pre-orders on August 9, 2024, and launched it on September 6, 2024. The recommended launch price was $79.99, €79.99, £69.99 or ¥11,980, and Sony said it was available in limited quantities through PlayStation Direct and select retailers.

Sony has not published how many units were made or whether more will follow, so we do not claim either. What we can say is that it is an official Sony edition, not a third-party shell or skin applied to a standard pad.

Who This Is Not For

Collectors who want to keep a box sealed will not get the use out of the features, and players who want back buttons, replaceable stick modules or trigger stops should look at the DualSense Edge instead, because the Astro Bot Limited Edition keeps the standard DualSense controls.

The light shell and blue details also show hand marks sooner than a dark controller, so it needs an occasional wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Sony does not publish DualSense battery life in hours, and standalone DualSense listings do not include a USB cable, so use the cable that came with your PS5 or add a USB-C cable to your order.
