Which Patriot kit the Viper Elite 5 Ultra RGB 32GB 6400 is
Patriot sells several Elite 5 lines, and the names are easy to mix up. This is the Viper Elite 5 RGB Ultra series, part number VEUR532G6436K: two 16GB modules, black aluminium heatshield, RGB light bar, rated at 6400 MT/s with CL36 at 1.4 V. The older Viper Elite 5 RGB (PVER part numbers) and the non-RGB Elite 5 Ultra (VEU part numbers) are different products.
Patriot positions the Elite 5 Ultra as a high-performance DDR5 line for gamers, creators and enthusiasts, and says each module is 100% hand-tested on the latest Intel platforms so it runs as rated out of the box.
Four profiles on the Viper Elite 5 Ultra RGB 32GB 6400
The SKU sheet lists four tested profiles. XMP Profile 1 runs 6400 MT/s with 36-46-46-110 timings at 1.4 V, and XMP Profile 2 runs 6200 MT/s with 42-46-46-86 at 1.35 V. For AMD boards there are two EXPO profiles: 6400 MT/s at 36-46-46-110 and 1.4 V, and 5600 MT/s at 42-46-46-86 and 1.35 V. Without a profile, the Viper Elite 5 Ultra RGB 32GB 6400 starts at 5600 MT/s, 46-46-46-90, 1.1 V.
Those lower profiles matter. If your CPU’s memory controller cannot hold 6400 MT/s, you can drop to the 6200 or 5600 profile with one click instead of tuning timings and voltages manually. In nanoseconds, 6400 at CL36 gives a first-word latency of 36 x 2000 / 6400 = 11.25 ns, which is lower than a typical 6000 CL36 kit at 12.0 ns.
Black heatshield and RGB on the Viper Elite 5 Ultra RGB 32GB 6400
The design is a matte black aluminium heatshield with the Viper logo and a diagonal RGB bar. Patriot lists the module at 0.7 x 13.3 x 4.4 cm, so it is about 44 mm tall, and the sheet gives a weight of 46 g.
Lighting can be synced with ASUS, ASRock, MSI and Gigabyte motherboard software, which Patriot asks buyers to confirm with their board vendor, and there is a Viper RGB app. Patriot also says its RGB DRAM is officially licensed for SignalRGB. Under the heatshield, each module has on-die ECC, a thermal sensor and an unlocked PMIC that Patriot says delivers stable power for XMP and beyond.
Who This Is Not For
The Viper Elite 5 Ultra RGB 32GB 6400 is for DDR5 desktop boards only; DDR4 boards and laptops cannot use it. Running 6400 MT/s is an overclock that depends on the CPU and motherboard, and Patriot tested the kit on Intel platforms, so some AMD systems may be happier on the 5600 MT/s EXPO profile. Builders who want the lowest possible latency at 6000 MT/s will find CL30 kits faster in that respect. If you want a plain black kit without lighting, the non-RGB Elite 5 Ultra is the one to pick.
