The JBL Tour Pro 3 is JBL’s flagship true wireless earbud, here in black. Two things separate it from ordinary noise-cancelling earbuds. Each earbud carries two drivers, a 10.2 mm dynamic driver and a 5.1 x 2.8 mm balanced armature, and the case is more than a battery: it has a 1.57-inch touchscreen and works as a wireless transmitter, so you can plug it into an aircraft seat or a laptop and listen through the earbuds. JBL rates the JBL Tour Pro 3 at up to 44 hours of music with the case, ANC off.

Table of Contents
Black: the everyday, low-key choice
Black is the default colour for most people choosing the JBL Tour Pro 3, and for good reason. The matte black earbuds sit discreetly in the ear in a meeting, a mosque or a business-class cabin, and the case looks at home next to a black phone or laptop. Black also hides the small scuffs and pocket lint that build up on a case carried every day. JBL also makes a Latte version; the earbuds, case and features are identical, only the finish differs.

Hybrid dual drivers and LDAC
Each JBL Tour Pro 3 earbud pairs a 10.2 mm dynamic driver for lows and mids with a 5.1 x 2.8 mm balanced armature for the upper range. JBL lists a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz, 104 dB sensitivity at 1 kHz/1 mW and 32 ohm impedance. For wireless playback the earbuds support LDAC with 24-bit audio and are Hi-Res certified. LDAC is an Android feature; iPhones connect with a standard codec. Personi-Fi 3.0 in the JBL Headphones app builds a listening profile from a short hearing test.

True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0 and Spatial 360
Noise cancelling is what JBL calls True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0, which adjusts to the fit in your ear and the noise around you. JBL uses six microphones in total: two beamforming outer microphones and one inner microphone on each earbud. When you need to hear your surroundings, Ambient Sound lets them in. JBL Spatial 360 with head tracking keeps sound fixed in space as you turn your head, which suits films more than most stereo music.

The Smart Charging Case as a transmitter
The case is the part of the JBL Tour Pro 3 that most changes how you use it. Its 1.57-inch touchscreen changes noise-cancelling modes, volume, EQ and other settings without your phone, and shows notifications. More useful on a trip, the case works as a dongle: connect it to an in-flight entertainment socket with the USB-C to 3.5 mm cable, or to a laptop or console with the USB-C to USB-C cable, and audio goes straight to the earbuds. The case also has an Auracast button for sharing audio with nearby Auracast headphones.

Battery life, with the conditions
JBL rates the JBL Tour Pro 3 earbuds at up to 11 hours per charge with ANC off and up to 8 hours with ANC on. The case holds three more full charges, for up to 44 hours with ANC off (11 + 33) or 32 hours with ANC on (8 + 24). Talk time is up to 5.5 hours. A 10-minute quick charge gives about 3 hours of listening, a full charge from empty takes about 2 hours, and wireless charging is supported. Bluetooth 5.3 with multipoint keeps a phone and a laptop connected at once.

Who This Is Not For
iPhone users who choose the JBL Tour Pro 3 mainly for LDAC will not get that benefit, because iOS does not support LDAC; the case, ANC and spatial audio still work. The case weighs 71.8 g, heavier than a plain battery case because of the screen and transmitter. IP55 covers dust, sweat and water jets, not swimming. And if you only need basic noise cancelling for the gym, you will pay for features you will not use.
