The JBL Live Free NC+ Blue is a true wireless earbud set in a deep, navy-leaning blue that runs across both buds and the charging case. It pairs active noise cancelling with an IPX7 rating on the earbuds, so they survive immersion in water, not only splashes. Each charge gives up to 7 hours with noise cancelling off, the case adds 14 hours, and the case charges by USB-C or on any Qi wireless pad. Blue is the practical pick for people who train outdoors and want colour without anything loud.
Table of Contents
JBL Signature Sound from 6.8 mm Drivers
Each bud of the JBL Live Free NC+ Blue holds a 6.8 mm dynamic driver with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, 16-ohm impedance and 96 dB sensitivity. JBL calls the tuning JBL Signature Sound: bass-forward, with clear vocals, which suits pop, hip-hop and podcasts. The JBL Headphones app adjusts the sound and auto power-off. Fit matters more than any setting, so try all three ear-tip sizes before judging the bass; a tip that is too small weakens both the low end and the noise cancelling.
Noise Cancelling with TalkThru and Ambient Aware
Active noise cancelling cuts the steady drone of air conditioning, engines and metro carriages. Smart Ambient adds two modes: TalkThru drops the music and lets speech through, so you can answer someone without removing a bud, and Ambient Aware feeds in outside sound while the music keeps playing, the safer setting when you run beside traffic. Switching ANC on cuts runtime from 7 to 6 hours per charge, and like every ANC earbud, the JBL Live Free NC+ Blue lowers nearby voices without erasing them.
Battery and Qi Wireless Charging
Each earbud carries a 50 mAh battery and the case 300 mAh. JBL rates that at up to 7 hours with ANC off or 6 hours with ANC on, plus 14 hours from the case, for up to 21 hours in total. A full USB-C charge takes about 2 hours from empty. Speed Charge is supported, but JBL does not publish how much playtime a short top-up gives. The case also charges on any Qi-compatible pad; the pad itself is not in the box.
Why Choose the JBL Live Free NC+ Blue?
This blue is dark and calm, closer to navy than to sky blue, so it sits well with sportswear, denim and dark backpacks. It suits people who train outdoors or at the gym: IPX7 handles sweat and rain, and a dark shade hides sweat marks and dust far better than white. A blue bud is also easier to spot on a pale gym floor or on sand. Wipe both buds with a dry cloth after each workout, let them air-dry before they go back in the case, and clear wax from the tips every few weeks.
Connection and Everyday Use
Bluetooth 5.1 links the earbuds, and Dual Connect + Sync lets you use either bud alone or both together, so one can charge while the other handles a long call. On Android phones with Google Fast Pair, the pairing prompt appears as soon as you open the case. Touch controls cover playback, calls and the voice assistant: Hey Google works on Android only, and Alexa needs Android 6.0 or later for full features. The JBL Live Free NC+ Blue also works with iPhone over standard Bluetooth, without Fast Pair.
Who This Is Not For
The JBL Live Free NC+ Blue is not for anyone chasing maximum battery life: 6 hours per charge with ANC on trails newer earbuds. Bluetooth 5.1 is an older version, and JBL lists no high-resolution codec such as LDAC or aptX. The case has no water rating even though the buds are IPX7, so never put wet buds back in it, and IPX7 covers neither dust nor swimming.
