HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Black: The Everyday Training Colour
Black is the version most people buy a fitness watch in, and for good reason. The black fluoroelastomer strap does not show sweat lines, gym chalk or the grey smudge that builds up on lighter straps, and it rinses clean under the tap after a session. With a dark watch face, the rectangular screen blends into the case, so the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Black looks tidy with a work shirt as well as with training kit.
The strap fits wrists 130–210 mm around, the same range Huawei gives for the White, Green and Silver editions. Only the Purple strap is shorter, at 120–190 mm, so larger wrists are better served by Black or White.
Battery: 10, 7 or 4 Days — It Depends How You Use It
Huawei gives three numbers for the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Black and they are not interchangeable. Up to 10 days is light use. Up to 7 days is typical use. With the always-on display switched on, it is up to 4 days. Huawei adds that results vary with the unit, usage habits and environment, and credits a higher-density battery with 18% more capacity than before.
If you train most days with GPS on and sleep with the watch, the typical-use figure is the one to plan around. Charging is wireless on the supplied cradle, and Huawei’s product page quotes about 75 minutes for a full charge, again depending on conditions.
Running, Cycling and Court Sports
Positioning is where this generation improves most. The HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Black supports GPS (L1 + L5 dual-band), GLONASS, BeiDou (B1I + B1C + B2a), Galileo (E1 + E5a), QZSS (L1 + L5) and NavIC, and Huawei’s Sunflower Positioning System is aimed at keeping tracks accurate near buildings and trees. Runners get heart-rate tracking and running power; cyclists get real-time grade, power and cadence, auto-pause and FTP tracking.
Fall detection is available but must be switched on manually, and emergency SOS needs contacts set up in the HUAWEI Health app beforehand. For padel players, Huawei lists support for the Padel Point app for scores and matches. In total there are 100+ workout modes, including strength training, yoga and pool swimming.
Screen, Controls and Build
The 1.82-inch AMOLED runs at 480 × 408 pixels (347 PPI) with up to 2500 nits peak brightness. Navigation is by a rotating crown (the Home button) and a side button. The case is aluminium alloy, 42.9 × 38.2 × 9.5 mm, about 27 g without the strap, and a built-in speaker and microphone handle Bluetooth calls.
Sensors include an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, ambient light sensor, optical heart rate sensor with a 6-LED, 6-PD layout, barometer and temperature sensor. Huawei notes that the temperature sensor does not measure or display your temperature.
Health Readings on the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Black
Huawei lists heart rate with HRV insights, real-time SpO2, stress, and TruSleep 5.0 sleep analysis covering deep, light and REM stages. Pulse Wave Arrhythmia Analysis can alert you to signs of atrial fibrillation or premature beats; Huawei says it is not suitable for users under 18 and results are for reference only. None of this is a medical device.
Android or iPhone: What Changes
The HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Black pairs with Android 9.0 or later and iOS 13.0 or later through the HUAWEI Health app. Huawei’s compatibility table for the FIT 5 series marks these as not supported on iOS: quick SMS replies, replies to missed-call messages, Smart assistance and wallet features. Everything else in that table is listed as supported on iPhone.
Who This Is Not For
The HUAWEI WATCH FIT 5 Black has no NFC — Huawei lists NFC for the Silver edition only — so contactless payments from the wrist are out. Golf course maps are a FIT 5 Pro feature. It is not meant for diving, hot showers or saunas despite its 5 ATM and IP6X ratings. And if you rely on quick replies to messages from an iPhone, those are not supported on iOS.
