Bose QuietComfort 45 Black replaced the legendary QuietComfort 35 II in September 2021, and it has itself since been superseded by the 2023 QuietComfort Headphones. It remains one of the most comfortable noise cancelling headphones sold, and current retail stock is genuine, unused hardware at a lower price than the model that replaced it.

QuietComfort 45 Black: Where the QC45 Sits Now
Bose released the QC45 as a direct successor to the QC35 II, adding USB-C charging, a fourth microphone for calls, and 24-hour battery life. In 2023 Bose replaced it in the lineup with the QuietComfort Headphones, which added adjustable cancellation levels and Wind Block on top of what the QC45 already did well.
What that means practically: this is a mature, well-reviewed design rather than a current flagship, and it is priced accordingly. If you do not need adjustable cancellation levels, there is little reason to pay more for the newer model.
Bose QuietComfort 45 Black: Quiet and Aware, Nothing Else
There are exactly two settings here, switched with a toggle on the earcup. Quiet Mode applies full cancellation. Aware Mode opens the microphones so conversation and announcements reach you. There is no adjustable slider and no way to disable cancellation to save battery — a genuine limitation next to the newer QuietComfort Headphones, which let you set your own level.
For most listening this distinction rarely matters. It becomes relevant only if you specifically want a partial cancellation setting for an office.
QuietComfort 45 Black: TriPort Acoustics and Volume-Optimised EQ
Bose built the QC45 around its TriPort acoustic architecture, which uses internal ports to extend bass response beyond what the driver alone could produce in a sealed earcup. Volume-optimised Active EQ then keeps that bass consistent whether you are listening quietly at a desk or loud on a train, rather than letting low end thin out at lower volumes the way most headphones do.

QuietComfort 45 Black: Who Black Suits
Black is the version that draws no attention in an office, on a flight or on a call, and it hides the inevitable scuffs of daily carry better than any of the lighter finishes. It is also the easiest colour to match with existing dark gear.
The trade-off is anonymity in a shared space — identical black headphones get picked up by the wrong person in a house or office with more than one pair around. Midnight Blue, White Smoke and Eclipse Gray solve that with the same hardware.
QuietComfort 45 Black: 24 Hours and a Cable That Saves You
Twenty-four hours covers a long-haul return flight with room left over. USB-C charging reaches full in about two and a half hours, and fifteen minutes on the cable returns roughly three hours of playback.
The included 3.5mm audio cable works with a completely dead battery and with aircraft entertainment systems that have no Bluetooth transmitter at all — a detail that quietly removes an entire category of travel problem.
