You attack an enemy hive, find safe pockets between incoming shots and break its shields; that charges your Zorlon Cannon, a heavy blast fired into the hive to finish the fight. Arcade mode is a run through 30 enemies in a row: three hits and you are out, with the counter reset at each new fight. Missions mode has 30 unique bosses, one life each, and a global leaderboard. Caverns of Mars: Recharged, a dive to the reactor
The second game on Atari Recharged Collection 3 Switch, Caverns of Mars: Recharged, reimagines a 1981 Atari game. You fly down through tunnels beneath Mars to destroy the enemy reactor at the bottom. The environments are fully destructible, but your ammo is limited, enemies are plentiful, and every shot burns fuel, which shortens the time you have to reach the bottom. Arcade mode covers three depths of Mars with upgrades that change from run to run, and Challenge Mode adds 30 missions built around navigation, combat and other scenarios. Weapons include a focused railgun shot and a fast, spreading shotgun blast.
Local co-op and short sessions
Both games on Atari Recharged Collection 3 Switch support two players on one console. In Yars: Recharged, co-op works in both Arcade and Missions modes. In Caverns of Mars: Recharged the setup is unusual: one player steers the ship while the second shoots from a drone, which suits a parent and child or two friends sharing a pair of Joy-Con. Each player needs their own compatible controller. A single boss in Yars or one cavern run in Caverns of Mars takes only minutes, so the cartridge works for quick handheld breaks as well as longer score-chasing evenings on the TV.

Limited Run Games sold this edition through a pre-order that closed on 7 January 2024, and its store now lists Atari Recharged Collection 3 Switch as sold out. It is number 223 in the Switch Limited Run line. Limited Run Games does not publish a print-run figure, so we do not quote one. Who This Is Not For
Players who want a long adventure should skip Atari Recharged Collection 3 Switch: these are two compact arcade games built around repeated runs, high scores and learning patterns, with no story campaign. Co-op is local only, on one console, with no online co-op. Leaderboards need an internet connection. The box is a US Limited Run edition with English packaging and an ESRB rating, and it holds only Yars and Caverns of Mars, not the other Recharged games.
