Brigandine Switch is BRIGANDINE The Legend of Runersia on Nintendo Switch, the platform where Happinet first launched the game on 25 June 2020. It is a grand strategy RPG: you pick one of six rulers, assemble platoons of rune knights and monsters, and fight season after season for the bases of Runersia. Nintendo UK lists it as PEGI 7 for mild violence, for one player, with Japanese, English and Chinese text. On Switch, a long campaign can travel with you, so a turn or two fits into a lunch break and the big sieges can wait for the TV.

A war you can carry
Strategy games of this size usually tie you to a desk, but Brigandine Switch supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes. That suits its rhythm well: one Organization Phase, where you rearrange platoons and equipment, takes a few minutes and works fine on the small screen, while longer Attack Phase battles feel comfortable on a big display with the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, which Nintendo lists as supported. Save Data Cloud is available with a Nintendo Switch Online membership, which protects a campaign you may spend many hours on.

Six rulers and the Mana Stones
The setting is the year 781 of the Runersia calendar. Five Mana Stones are embedded in an armour called the Brigandine, and each stone represents a nation’s ideal: Justice, Sanctity, Freedom, Glory or Ego. Five nations and a small tribe hold incompatible beliefs, and six rulers with their rune knights march to war. The continent has more than 40 bases, 100 knights and 50 types of monsters. The Records collect the stories and events of all six nations, so each ruler you play in Brigandine Switch fills in more of the picture.

Rune knights, monsters and growth
Your rune knights lead platoons, and monsters make up the rest of each unit. Both gain experience and get stronger in battle, and you can push them further with class changes, equipment and items. A weak creature recruited early can grow into a front-line fighter if you keep it alive, which is why losing units hurts. Building a balanced roster of healers, ranged attackers and heavy hitters, and deciding which knight leads which monsters, is where much of the planning in Brigandine Switch happens.

Hex battles: elements, terrain and encirclement
Battles are turn-based fights between platoons on a hex map. Nintendo lists four factors that decide them: unit skills, elements, enclosure effects when you surround an enemy, and terrain advantages. Attacking from the right side, using high ground, or matching an element against a weakness can beat a larger force. Enemy nations also attack your bases on their own schedule, so no two campaigns unfold the same way, and clearing The Legend of Runersia unlocks the Alternate Chapter, a harder challenge mode.

The Nintendo Switch edition
This is the Nintendo Switch edition, rated PEGI 7. Switch games are not region-locked, so it plays on any Switch in the UAE, including the handheld-only Switch Lite. For reference, Nintendo lists the download version at 9.8 GB. Nintendo also offers a free demo on the eShop if you want to try the battle system before committing to a long campaign. The game is for one player and needs no internet connection to play.
Who This Is Not For
Brigandine Switch is not for players who want fast action or short sessions with quick results: campaigns are long and menu-heavy, and progress comes from planning. There is no multiplayer. There is no Arabic language option; Nintendo lists Japanese, English and Chinese. And if you mainly play on a PS4, the same game is also sold for that console.
