One Piece Odyssey Switch in its Deluxe Edition is Bandai Namco’s turn-based RPG starring Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates, developed by ILCA and released for Nintendo Switch in Europe on 26 July 2024 according to Nintendo’s European listing. The box we sell is the European edition rated PEGI 12, and the Deluxe Edition bundles the base game with the Reunion of Memories story scenario and three outfit sets for the crew. Nintendo notes that the game was made for the 25th anniversary of the ONE PIECE series.
Table of Contents
What the Deluxe Edition includes
Bandai Namco and Nintendo list the same contents for the One Piece Odyssey Switch Deluxe Edition: the full ONE PIECE ODYSSEY base game; the additional scenario Reunion of Memories, which opens after you finish the main story and lets the crew meet Mihawk, Eneru and Whitebeard in a world built from memories; the Traveling Outfit Set; the Sniper King Outfit Set; and the City of Water Outfit Set. In practice this means the complete story plus its main expansion on one cartridge, with no separate purchase needed for the extra chapter.
The story: stranded on Waford
A storm wrecks the Thousand Sunny and leaves the Straw Hats stranded on Waford, a tropical island ringed by constant storms. Luffy is separated from his friends and must find them and a way off the island. While exploring ancient ruins the crew meets two islanders, Adio and Lim, both designed by series creator Eiichiro Oda. The adventure then pulls the crew into Memoria, a world made from their memories, where they relive famous arcs such as Alabasta, Marineford and Dressrosa.
Turn-based battles with the whole crew
In One Piece Odyssey Switch you control each Straw Hat during exploration, using their personal skills to reach new areas, and you command them in turn-based battles. Bandai Namco highlights Scramble Area Battle, where fighters are spread across several zones of the battlefield and you shift them around to exploit enemy weaknesses. Dramatic Scenes recreate famous moments, such as a crewmate who needs rescuing, and award bonus experience when you complete them. Playable crew members named by Bandai Namco include Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brook.
Playing on the go
Nintendo’s European page lists TV, tabletop and handheld modes, so you can continue Luffy’s journey on the sofa or on a long trip. The game supports the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Save Data Cloud for Nintendo Switch Online members. The eShop download size is listed as 11.8 GB; neither Nintendo nor Bandai Namco publishes whether the cartridge needs an extra download. Turn-based combat suits short handheld sessions well, because you can stop after a single battle or side quest, which makes One Piece Odyssey Switch an easy game to dip into.
Languages and voice cast
Bandai Namco states that the game uses the anime’s original Japanese voice actors. Nintendo’s European listing names these text languages: Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Russian. Arabic is not on the list. The art style is bright and close to the anime, and cutscenes present Oda’s characters in a way that fans of the TV series will recognise immediately, while the Reunion of Memories chapter adds familiar rivals from later arcs.
Who This Is Not For
One Piece Odyssey Switch is rated PEGI 12 for Bad Language, Sex and Violence, so it is not suited to players under 12. It is single-player only: Nintendo lists 1 player, with no local or online multiplayer. The combat is turn-based, so anyone looking for fast action fighting should choose a brawler instead. Voices are Japanese with subtitles, and there is no Arabic text. Bandai Namco does not publish a play time, and the European listing gives no Switch 2 specific information.
