825 GB: what fits

The CFI-2116 has an 825 GB SSD, slightly less than the 1 TB of the earlier CFI-2016 Slim. Part of that is used by the system software, so large games fill it quickly. The M.2 slot takes an extra NVMe SSD with a heatsink when you need more room, and games can be kept on USB storage and copied back.

Performance

Inside are an eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU, a 10 TFLOPS RDNA 2 GPU and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, the same as every standard PS5. Games run in 4K at up to 120 frames per second on supported TVs, with ray tracing in supported titles and fast loading from the SSD. Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and Ethernet are built in.

Adding a disc drive later

The Digital Edition reads no discs, but Sony’s optional Disc Drive for the Slim fits the CFI-2100 range and is sold separately. If you already own physical games, adding the drive is cheaper than switching consoles.

Who This Is Not For

It has no disc drive, so a collection of PS5 or PS4 discs needs the separate drive. 825 GB is tight for players who keep many large games installed. The vertical stand is sold separately. And if you want a higher resolution boost and PSSR upscaling, that is the PS5 Pro.
