The JBL Live 770NC is the over-ear model in JBL’s Live range, a step above the Tune series: it adds True Adaptive Noise Cancelling, JBL Spatial Sound and a carrying case, and it supports app personalisation through Personi-Fi 2.0. This is the black version. JBL rates the JBL Live 770NC at up to 65 hours of playback with noise cancelling off and up to 50 hours with it on, and a 5-minute charge adds up to 4 hours.

True Adaptive Noise Cancelling on the JBL Live 770NC
JBL calls the cancelling on the JBL Live 770NC True Adaptive Noise Cancelling. Instead of applying a fixed amount of cancellation, it keeps adjusting to the sound around you and to how the ear cups sit on your head, which changes with glasses, hair and head shape. You do not need to switch presets when moving from an office to a taxi or a mall.
Smart Ambient works the other way, letting outside sound in when you need it, such as hearing a boarding announcement or talking to a cashier without taking the headphones off. Auto play/pause stops the music when you lift the headphones.
JBL Signature Sound, Spatial Sound and Personi-Fi 2.0
Each ear cup uses a 40 mm dynamic driver with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, 32 ohm impedance and 100 dB sensitivity at 1 kHz/1 mW. JBL Spatial Sound widens the stereo image so music and films feel less like they are playing inside your head.
In the JBL Headphones app, Personi-Fi 2.0 builds a sound profile around your hearing, and you can adjust the EQ yourself. That is the main practical difference from the Tune 760NC, which has a fixed tuning.
Battery Life: 65 Hours, With Conditions
JBL’s figure of up to 65 hours applies with Bluetooth on and noise cancelling off. With ANC on, JBL rates the JBL Live 770NC at up to 50 hours. A full charge takes 3 hours from empty, and Speed Charge gives up to 4 more hours from a 5-minute top-up over USB-C.
A detachable audio cable is included for wired listening, which is useful on flights with a headphone jack in the armrest.
Calls, Multipoint and Bluetooth 5.3
Two beamforming microphones focus on your voice for calls. Multipoint keeps the headphones connected to two Bluetooth devices at the same time, so a laptop call and a phone call can share one pair. The connection is Bluetooth 5.3 with A2DP 1.4, HFP 1.8 and AVRCP 1.6.2.
JBL lists LE Audio support as arriving through an over-the-air update at a later stage, so it is a future capability, not a feature to count on today. Buy the JBL Live 770NC for what it does now.
Why the Black Finish
Black is the practical colour of the four JBL offers (Black, White, Blue and Sandstone). The fabric headband and ear cushions do not show make-up or dirt, and the matte finish suits an office or a flight as easily as a gym bag. It is also the colour most buyers look for first when searching for these headphones.
Who This Is Not For
At 256 g the JBL Live 770NC is heavier than JBL’s Tune over-ear models, which some listeners notice after several hours. JBL does not publish a water-resistance rating, so avoid heavy sweat and rain. LE Audio depends on a future firmware update. And a full charge takes 3 hours, longer than some rivals.
