The JBL Flip 7 Blue is the water-day version of the seventh-generation JBL Flip: a deep, slightly muted blue fabric body that looks at home on a pool deck, a boat or a beach towel. Inside it carries a 25W RMS woofer and a 10W RMS tweeter tuned by AI Sound Boost, an IP68 rating against dust and water, and a battery rated for up to 14 hours, or up to 16 hours with Playtime Boost switched on. Bluetooth 5.4 with Auracast, lossless audio over USB-C and the new PushLock mount round out the package.

Table of Contents
A blue that belongs near water
JBL lists ten Flip 7 finishes, and Blue is the one that sits closest to the colour of a pool or the Gulf on a calm morning. In the official photos it is a deep blue with a slightly grey cast rather than a bright electric shade, so it looks calm next to towels, cool boxes and kayaks instead of shouting for attention. The JBL Flip 7 Blue also hides water marks better than the White or Sand versions: drops that dry on a light grille can leave a faint ring, while the darker blue fabric keeps looking clean between rinses. If you want something brighter for a party table, the Red or Purple pages suit that mood better.

IP68 in practice: pool, beach and boat
JBL rates the Flip 7 at IP68, which covers both dust and water. Its lab test is immersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, and JBL also says the speaker is built to survive a drop from 1 metre onto concrete. That makes the JBL Flip 7 Blue a speaker you can leave at the edge of the pool without worrying about a splash, or carry in a beach bag full of sand. Two practical rules apply: the test uses fresh water, so rinse the speaker in clean water after the sea or a chlorinated pool, and JBL does not state that the Flip 7 floats, so clip it to something with the carabiner when you are on a boat or paddleboard.

Sound outdoors: 35W RMS and AI Sound Boost
JBL’s spec sheet lists a 45 x 80 mm woofer at 25W RMS and a 16 mm tweeter at 10W RMS, 35W RMS in total, which is continuous power rather than a peak figure. Frequency response runs from 60 Hz to 20 kHz with a signal-to-noise ratio above 80 dB. AI Sound Boost analyses the music in real time and drives the drivers as hard as they can go with less distortion, according to JBL, and the JBL Portable app lets you adjust the sound of the JBL Flip 7 Blue to taste. Outdoors, where there are no walls to reflect bass back to you, that headroom is what keeps the JBL Flip 7 Blue sounding full at a beach picnic rather than thin and shouty.

A full day out on one charge
The battery is a 17.28 Wh lithium-ion polymer cell (equivalent to 3.6 V / 4,800 mAh). JBL quotes up to 14 hours of playtime, depending on volume level and audio content, and Playtime Boost adds up to 2 more hours for a total of up to 16. A full recharge takes about 2.5 hours at 5 V / 3 A. Note that JBL does not include a USB cable in the box, so pack your own USB-C cable and a 5 V / 3 A adapter if you are staying overnight on a boat or at a chalet. One more point for summer in the UAE: JBL sets the maximum operating temperature at 45°C, so keep the JBL Flip 7 Blue in the shade rather than on a hot deck.
Who the blue suits
The JBL Flip 7 Blue suits people who spend weekends in or around water: swimmers who want music at the pool, families on the beach at Jumeirah or Al Mamzar, and anyone who takes a speaker on a boat trip or a kayak tour. It is also a sensible gift when you are not sure of someone’s taste, because blue is neutral enough for adults and teenagers alike. The colour does not change the hardware: every Flip 7 finish has the same drivers, battery and IP68 rating, so pick the shade you like and nothing else changes.
The rest, in brief
Bluetooth 5.4 with A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6. Auracast lets you stereo-pair two Flip 7 speakers in any colours, or play the same music on several Auracast-enabled JBL speakers. Over USB-C the speaker can play lossless audio from a laptop or another audio device, as long as the content comes from a supported lossless app or service. The JBL Flip 7 Blue PushLock system takes interchangeable accessories, and a carabiner comes in the box. The JBL Portable app for iOS and Android adds updates and custom sound settings. JBL says the speaker uses recycled plastic and fabric, with FSC-certified paper packaging.
Who This Is Not For
The JBL Flip 7 Blue is not for anyone who still relies on a 3.5 mm cable: JBL lists no analogue input, so wired playback is over USB-C only. It will not join older JBL PartyBoost speakers such as the Flip 6 or Charge 5, because it uses Auracast instead. There is no USB cable or charger in the box, and it cannot charge your phone. At 0.56 kg it is heavier than pocket speakers such as the JBL Go, and JBL does not claim it floats, so it needs to be tethered on open water.
