The HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S Deepsea Blue suits people who want open-ear earbuds that do not shout for attention. On dark hair the navy bridge almost disappears, and with a suit, an abaya or a denim jacket it looks deliberate rather than techy. The colour also hides everyday marks better than the silver version. The case is still a mirror finish, so fingerprints show, but on a dark surface smudges are less obvious than on silver. Huawei says the case gets 20% more internal space than the FreeClip 2 case and goes through over 100 processes, and it suggests the spare room for a small ring or pendant when you are on the move.
How the open-ear design behaves day to day
The part that rests at your ear opening, which Huawei calls the Comfort Bean, was refined from more than 10,000 ear samples, and the C-bridge is liquid silicone 25% softer than the original FreeClip. Because nothing seals the canal, the HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S Deepsea Blue is comfortable for hours at a desk and safe on a pavement where you need to hear cars. The flip side is leakage: Huawei uses a reverse sound-wave system to keep audio private, but it advises turning the volume down in quiet places, because people next to you can still hear some sound. Each bud uses a 10.8 mm dual-diaphragm driver covering 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Against the original FreeClip (not the FreeClip 2), Huawei claims 100% more low-frequency performance and volume and ten times the NPU computing power. If you already own a FreeClip 2, Huawei publishes no sound improvement over it. The HUAWEI Audio Connect app runs on iOS 13.0, iPadOS 13.0 and Android 8.0 or later and gives EQ presets, custom sound and gesture settings. Unlimited Spatial Audio with head tracking requires an OTA update, and adaptive volume is a trial feature that is off by default and lives under Experimental features.
Calls and controls
A three-microphone setup with multi-channel DNN algorithms handles call noise cancellation, and the sensor list also includes a bone acoustic sensor. Double-tap plays, pauses or answers; triple-tap skips; swipe up or down changes volume; press and hold is unassigned until you choose an action. Head control lets you nod to accept or shake to decline a call; it is off by default and works with cellular calls. The HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S Deepsea Blue connects over Bluetooth 6.0 to two devices at once. Pop-Up Pair, the automatic pairing window, works with Huawei phones and tablets on EMUI 10.0 or later; other phones pair through the normal Bluetooth menu.

No USB-C cable is included. The buds are IP57 and the case IP54, but Huawei says not to wear them while swimming or showering.
Who This Is Not For
Skip the HUAWEI FreeClip 2 S Deepsea Blue if you want to shut out noise: there is no seal and no active noise cancellation, so flights and the metro stay loud. Bass is lighter than in sealed in-ear earbuds. People close by may hear your audio at high volume in quiet rooms. It is not for swimming or showering, there is no USB-C cable in the box, and FreeClip 2 owners get no published sound gain.
