Split Fiction PS5 is a co-op action adventure from Hazelight Studios, the studio behind It Takes Two, published by EA as an EA Originals title. Mio, Zoe and the Story of Split Fiction PS5
Mio writes science fiction and Zoe writes fantasy. Hooked up to a machine designed to steal their creative ideas, they end up trapped inside their own stories as strangers whose personalities clash. To escape with their memories and stories intact, they have to learn to work together.
Each level alternates between Zoe’s fantasy settings and Mio’s sci-fi worlds. EA and PlayStation mention dragons and trolls on one side, and cyber ninjas and robo-parking attendants on the other, along with set pieces such as motorcycle chases. Gameplay mixes platforming, stealth and puzzles, and new mechanics keep arriving as the worlds change.
Two-Player Co-op Only
Split Fiction PS5 cannot be played solo. Hazelight calls it a split-screen adventure tailored for two, and every section needs both players. On one console, two people play side by side in split-screen with two controllers, and EA states that local co-op does not need an internet connection.
That makes it a natural pick for couples, siblings and friends who game on the same sofa. It also means a buyer who usually plays alone needs a regular partner, either at home or online, before the game is worth owning.
Online Play and the Friend’s Pass
For online play, only one of you needs to own the game. The partner downloads the free Friend’s Pass and can then play the full game with the owner online. EA says the Friend’s Pass supports cross-platform play, so a PS5 owner can invite a friend on PC, Xbox Series X|S or Nintendo Switch 2.
EA’s requirements for online co-op are an internet connection for both players, a PlayStation Network account, and an EA account linked to that platform account. PlayStation adds that PS Plus members can enjoy Split Fiction PS5 with an online partner, and EA’s help pages state that console players need PlayStation Plus to play together online. Without an owner, the Friend’s Pass lets a player try the opening of the game through the Neon Revenge level.
PS5 Features, Languages and Rating
PlayStation lists Split Fiction PS5 as PS5 Pro Enhanced, with support for DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Voice acting is available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese; on-screen text adds Korean, Polish and Brazilian Portuguese. Arabic is not offered.
The case carries a PEGI 16 rating and notes that age restrictions may apply to online features. PlayStation’s UAE page shows an NMC 12 rating. The game launched on 6 March 2025.
Who This Is Not For
Split Fiction PS5 is not for solo players: there is no single-player mode, and the box says so plainly. Online co-op also has more requirements than local play, including PlayStation Plus on PS5, an EA account and a stable connection for both people.
Players who need Arabic menus or subtitles should note that the game does not include them. Anyone hoping for a long competitive multiplayer game should also look elsewhere, since this is a story campaign designed to be finished together.
