The DualSense Edge White is the pro version of Sony’s PS5 controller in its original colourway: a white body with black touchpad surround, black face buttons and black sticks, matching the standard PS5 console. It keeps the haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, built-in microphone and motion controls of the regular DualSense, then adds mappable back buttons, three trigger stop positions, swappable stick caps and stick modules you can replace yourself. The white finish next to a PS5
The DualSense Edge White uses the same two-tone look as the launch PS5 and the standard white DualSense, so it blends in on a white console setup and makes the Edge easy to tell apart only by its black lower grips and Fn buttons. The white shell shows hand marks and dust over time more than a dark pad, especially around the grips after long sessions; a dry microfibre cloth after play keeps it clean. If your setup is mostly black, or you share the console with someone who already owns the Midnight Black version, the white one also makes it simple to know whose controller is whose.
Back buttons and remapping
Sony includes two styles of back buttons: two half-dome and two lever buttons. Half-dome buttons fit either side, while the lever buttons are marked L and R. Each back button can be assigned to any other input, so you can jump, reload or crouch without moving your thumb off the right stick. Remapping is done in profiles created on the PS5, and you can also turn off buttons you never use. On PC, Sony notes that the function buttons can only be used to swap profiles stored on the DualSense Edge White.
Trigger stops and dead zones
On the back of the controller there are sliders for L2 and R2 with three positions, which Sony describes as long, medium and short stroke. Shorter travel lets a trigger register sooner, useful in shooters. Sony also notes that the medium and short settings disable the adaptive trigger effect, so for racing or games that rely on trigger resistance you will want the long stroke. In software you can additionally set trigger dead zones, stick sensitivity, stick dead zones and vibration intensity.
Stick caps and replaceable stick modules
Three cap styles come in the box, two of each: standard, high dome and low dome. They pull off and push on by hand. The bigger change is that the analogue stick modules themselves can be replaced: if a stick stops working properly, Sony lets you swap the module on the DualSense Edge White instead of replacing the whole controller. Replacement stick modules are sold separately by PlayStation. A connector housing in the box keeps the braided USB cable from pulling out during play.
Profiles, case and PC use
Control profiles are saved on the controller and swapped on the fly; pressing Fn and Options in a game opens the customisation menu without leaving it. The carrying case lets you charge the controller over USB while it is stored inside. The DualSense Edge White also works with the separately sold DualSense charging station. On a Windows PC it connects by the included USB cable or Bluetooth, and the PlayStation Accessories app handles firmware updates and profile editing; haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on PC may need a USB connection and game support.
Who This Is Not For
The DualSense Edge White is not for players who only play casually: the extra controls add cost without much benefit in story games. Sony does not list battery life on the product page, so plan to keep the braided cable or the charging case close during long sessions. The white finish shows dirt more than black. It is not a PS4 controller, and replacement stick modules are an extra purchase.
