The Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine is Dyson’s first cordless vacuum that also washes floors. The base machine is the lightweight V12 Detect Slim, a 2.2 kg stick vacuum with 150 air watts of suction, a piezo sensor that counts dust as you clean and an illuminated cleaner head that shows fine dust on hard floors. In the box you also get the Submarine wet roller head: swap it on and the same machine wipes away spills, sticky marks and dried-on dirt from tile, marble and other sealed hard floors, with clean and dirty water kept in separate tanks.

The Submarine wet roller head
The Submarine head is what separates the Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine from a standard V12. Dyson says eight water jets, evenly spaced along a motor-driven microfibre roller, release 18 ml of water every minute, so the floor is dampened evenly rather than soaked. As the roller turns, a plate presses the dirty water out of it into a separate waste-water tray, which means the roller keeps wiping with clean water instead of spreading dirt around like a mop. Dyson lists a 300 ml clean water tank, enough for about 110 square metres per fill, and a slightly larger 360 ml dirty water tank.
150AW suction and the Hyperdymium motor
For dry cleaning, the Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine uses a Hyperdymium motor spinning at up to 125,000 rpm. Dyson rates the suction at 150 air watts, measured in Boost mode with the bin loaded to full under the EN IEC 62885-4 test method, so that is the top figure rather than what you get in Eco. Cyclones separate dust from the airflow so suction does not drop as the 0.35-litre bin fills. Dyson rates the run time at up to 60 minutes in Eco mode on hard floors; Boost mode and motorised heads shorten that considerably.
Dust you can see and count
Two features help you clean where it matters. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head projects a blade of light across hard floors, and Dyson says it reveals twice as much invisible dust as normal lighting, which is useful on pale tiles and marble. Inside the machine, a piezo sensor counts and sizes the particles being picked up and automatically raises suction when it meets heavier dirt, then lowers it again to save battery. The screen on the handle shows the particle count by size in real time, together with the mode and remaining run time.
Filtration for a dusty climate
The whole Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine is sealed, so air that enters the cleaner head leaves only through the filter. Dyson states that the advanced filtration traps 99.99% of particles down to 0.3 microns; in markets where the model is sold in a HEPA version, Dyson quotes 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns. Either way, fine sand and dust that blow into UAE homes stay inside the bin instead of being blown back into the room, which matters for anyone sensitive to dust.
How to use it in a UAE home
In a home with tile or marble floors, the usual Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine routine is to vacuum first with the Fluffy Optic head, then click on the Submarine head for a wash pass in the kitchen, dining area and entrance where sticky spills and footprints collect. The 300 ml clean water tank needs refilling on very large floor areas, and the 60-minute figure applies to Eco mode on hard floors only. The 0.35-litre bin is small for large villas, so expect to empty it often.
