The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E5 is Xiaomi’s entry-level robot that vacuums and mops in the same run. It pulls dust with up to 2000Pa of suction, wipes the floor through a water tank and a washable pad, and drives back to its dock when the job is finished. It finds its way with a gyroscope rather than a laser. That keeps the price low, but it also means no saved maps, so it suits apartments and open floors better than large villas with many closed rooms.

How the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E5 finds its way
Xiaomi explains that the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E5 reads angular velocity from a gyroscope to keep its heading, then cleans in a zigzag path, row by row. Several sensors help it steer around furniture, and overhang detection makes it back away from a drop so it does not fall down stairs. According to the official FAQ, it builds a fresh map in its memory for each clean but does not save it or show it in the app. So there is no room selection, no virtual walls and no no-go zones. You start a clean and choose the suction level, and the robot covers whatever floor it can reach. If you pick it up and move it mid-clean, it may repeat areas it already covered.
2000Pa suction and three power levels
The fan reaches a maximum of 2000Pa, which Xiaomi measured at the dustbin opening with a full battery and the fan on its top setting. In the app you choose between Silent, Standard and Strong. Xiaomi notes that the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E5 uses a larger fan for better pick-up, which makes it slightly louder, so Silent mode is the one to run while you are home or on a call. Two side brushes sweep dust from edges and corners towards the inlet, the nozzle is designed to resist tangled hair, and the air passes through triple filtration before it leaves the robot. The dustbin holds at least 400ml, a figure Xiaomi measured with fine sand.
Mopping with the water tank
Fit the water tank with its mop pad and the robot mops while it vacuums. Water seeps from the tank into the pad as it moves, and the official FAQ says a full tank lasts about 45 minutes, with no low-water reminder, so refill it midway on a larger floor. The pad is washable. This is light daily mopping that picks up dust and footprints, not scrubbing: dried and sticky stains still need a hand mop. Xiaomi also states that the mop bracket does not recognise carpets and does not lift, so take the tank off before the robot cleans a room with rugs.
Battery and runtime
Xiaomi lists a 2600mAh nominal battery (2500mAh rated) at 14.4V. Runtime is over 110 minutes in Standard mode, measured on a tiled floor at 23 degrees Celsius with the dustbin, water tank and mop pad fitted. The FAQ adds longer figures for vacuuming only, about 190 minutes in Standard, and shorter ones in Strong. A full charge from empty takes under 5.5 hours. When cleaning is done, or the battery runs low, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E5 returns to its dock by itself. Scheduled cleans start only when the battery is above 30 percent.
Size, obstacles and app control
The body is 300mm across and 70mm high, low enough for the gap under many beds and sofas, and it weighs 2.3kg. The FAQ gives an obstacle height of at least 15mm when dry without the water tank, 13mm for a round tube with the tank fitted, and about 10mm with a full tank, so thick door thresholds can stop it. Gaps narrower than about 32cm may trap it. You run it from the Xiaomi Home app with start, stop, schedules and suction level, and it works with Alexa and Google Assistant through compatible devices, which Xiaomi notes are not available in every language and country.
Who This Is Not For
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum E5 is not for anyone who wants saved maps, room-by-room cleaning or no-go zones; it has none of these. It is also a weak fit for homes with deep carpets or high thresholds, since it climbs about 15mm without the tank and the mop never lifts. Xiaomi itself notes the larger fan is slightly louder. And there is no self-emptying station: you empty the 400ml dustbin and rinse the pad yourself.
