The JBL Boombox 3 Squad is the same speaker as the black Boombox 3 in a different wrap, and that is worth saying first because a lot of listings imply otherwise. JBL lists Squad and Black as the two finishes of one model, with identical transducers, identical power ratings and identical box contents. What follows is taken from the JBL specification sheet for the Boombox 3, and every figure is quoted with the condition JBL attaches to it.

What the Squad Edition of the JBL Boombox 3 Squad Actually Changes
JBL offers the Boombox 3 in two finishes, Black and Squad, and the Squad is the camouflage-pattern wrap you can see in the photographs. That is the whole of the difference. JBL publishes one specification sheet for the model and lists the same driver array, the same output power, the same 24-hour playtime figure and the same in-box contents for both finishes.
So if you are choosing between them, choose on looks. Nothing in the JBL specification changes, and there are no extra bundled accessories in the Squad box: JBL lists one speaker unit, an AC power cord, a quick start guide, a safety sheet and a warranty card, and that is the same list for the black version.
One more clarification, because it causes real confusion: this is the Boombox 3, not the Boombox 4. The Boombox 4 is a separate, later model with its own published figures, and none of the numbers on this page were taken from it.
Power on the JBL Boombox 3 Squad: 180W RMS on Mains, 136W RMS on Battery
The 180W you see quoted everywhere is a real JBL figure, but it is only half the story, and the half that is usually left out matters. JBL publishes two separate power ratings for this speaker, and both are RMS, not peak.
In AC mode, plugged into the mains, JBL rates it at 1 x 80W RMS for the subwoofer plus 2 x 40W RMS for the midrange drivers plus 2 x 10W RMS for the tweeters. Add those up and you get the 180W RMS total. In battery mode, running off its own cells, JBL rates it at 1 x 60W RMS plus 2 x 30W RMS plus 2 x 8W RMS, which totals 136W RMS.
That is a 44W RMS difference, and it is the practical answer to a question people ask a lot: yes, it genuinely sounds louder with the cable in. If you are buying this speaker specifically for a loud party, plug it in. If you are buying it for a beach where there is no socket, plan around 136W RMS and not 180W RMS.
Drivers and Frequency Response on the JBL Boombox 3 Squad
The JBL Boombox 3 Squad is a 3-way system in JBL own description, and the spec sheet gives the driver sizes. There is one racetrack-shaped subwoofer measuring 189 x 114 mm, two midrange drivers of 80.9 x 80.9 mm each, which JBL also states as 2.75 inch, and two 20 mm tweeters, stated as 0.75 inch.
Three-way matters here. A two-way speaker asks one driver to cover both bass and midrange, which is where the muddiness at high volume usually comes from. Splitting the band three ways means the midrange drivers are only handling the midrange while the racetrack subwoofer does the low end on its own.
The published frequency response is 40Hz to 20kHz. JBL does not publish a tolerance figure alongside it, and it does not publish a signal-to-noise ratio or a maximum sound pressure level for this model, so we are not quoting either.
Battery, Charging and the Power Bank in the JBL Boombox 3 Squad
The battery is a lithium-ion polymer pack rated 72.6Wh, which JBL states as equivalent to 7.26V and 10,000mAh. Charging takes 6.5 hours from the mains, which is a long time and worth planning around: this is not a speaker you top up during a lunch break.
Playtime is published as up to 24 hours, and JBL attaches the condition itself: it is dependent on volume level and audio content. Bass-heavy music at high volume drains the pack faster, which is why the same speaker gives one person 24 hours and another eight.
There is also a power-bank function, so the speaker can charge a phone from its own battery. JBL does not publish an output current for that port, so treat it as an emergency top-up rather than a replacement for a proper charger, and remember that anything you charge from it comes out of your playtime.
IP67, Size and Weight of the JBL Boombox 3 Squad
JBL rates the Boombox 3 IP67 for dust and water. The first digit, 6, means the enclosure is dust-tight; the second, 7, means it is protected against immersion in water rather than only splashes. For a beach or a poolside in this climate, the dust half is as valuable as the water half.
Now the part the photographs hide. JBL lists the speaker at 482.4 x 256.9 x 199.7 mm and 6.7 kg. That is 48 cm wide and heavier than a full crate of water. The metal handle and silicone grips make it carryable, but it is a two-arm carry from the car to the spot, not something you walk a kilometre with.
Connectivity and Mains Power on the JBL Boombox 3 Squad
Bluetooth is version 5.3, with the A2DP 1.3 and AVRCP 1.6 profiles. JBL publishes the radio detail too: transmitter power up to 9 dBm EIRP over the 2.402GHz to 2.480GHz band. PartyBoost is supported, which links this speaker to other PartyBoost-equipped JBL speakers. JBL does not list Auracast for this model, so do not expect it to join an Auracast group.
The JBL Portable app handles EQ and settings. JBL does not list a 3.5 mm aux input or a microphone in the spec sheet for the Boombox 3, so there is no wired analogue input and no speakerphone.
For UAE buyers the important line is the AC input: JBL specifies 100 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz. That covers the 220 to 240 V, 50 Hz supply used here, so the speaker runs on local mains without a step-down transformer.
Who This Is Not For
If you need the full 180W RMS from the JBL Boombox 3 Squad and there will be no power socket, this is the wrong expectation to carry into the purchase. Away from the mains you get 136W RMS, on JBL own figures.
If portability is your first requirement, 6.7 kg and 48 cm of width rule it out. A speaker you leave in the boot of the car because it is too heavy to bother with is not a good purchase.
If you want to take calls on it, or use a voice assistant, or plug in a turntable or a mixer with a cable, JBL lists neither a microphone nor an aux input for this model.
If you want Wi-Fi streaming, multi-room, or Auracast group playback, JBL does not list any of those here. PartyBoost only links other PartyBoost JBL speakers.
And if you are hoping for the newer Boombox 4 specification at the Boombox 3 price, these are different products. Read the Boombox 4 page for the Boombox 4 numbers rather than assuming they carry over.

FAQ
Is the JBL Boombox 3 Squad different from the standard Boombox 3?
No. Squad is simply one of the two finishes JBL lists for the Boombox 3, the other being black. JBL publishes the same transducers, the same 180W RMS on mains, the same 136W RMS on battery, the same up-to-24-hour playtime and the same box contents for both.
Is the JBL Boombox 3 Squad 180W figure RMS or peak?
180W is an RMS total, not a peak figure, and JBL quotes it only for AC mode: 80W RMS subwoofer plus two 40W RMS midranges plus two 10W RMS tweeters. On battery the published total drops to 136W RMS.
How long does the battery last and how long does it take to charge?
24 hours is the maximum JBL publishes, and JBL states it depends on volume level and audio content, so loud bass-heavy playback gives much less. A full charge takes 6.5 hours, and the pack is 72.6Wh, which JBL states as equivalent to 7.26V / 10,000mAh.
Will the JBL Boombox 3 Squad work on UAE mains power?
Yes. JBL specifies an AC input of 100 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz, which covers the UAE supply, so no step-down transformer is needed. Plugging it in is also what unlocks the 180W RMS rating instead of 136W RMS.
Can I plug in a turntable or take calls on it?
No to both. The JBL spec sheet for the Boombox 3 lists no 3.5 mm aux input and no microphone, so there is no wired analogue source and no speakerphone function.
Does the JBL Boombox 3 Squad support Auracast?
No. JBL lists PartyBoost for this model, which pairs it with other PartyBoost-equipped JBL speakers. Auracast is not in the published specification for the Boombox 3.
What warranty and delivery come with it?
