The Soundcore V40i is an open-ear headphone from Anker: a hook sits over the top of your ear and a small speaker rests just outside the ear canal, so nothing goes inside and you still hear traffic, gym announcements and the person next to you. This is the black version. soundcore rates it at 6 hours per charge and 21 hours with the case, with IP55 protection against sweat, dust and rain, Bluetooth 5.4 and two-device multipoint. Because it is open, it has no noise cancelling and will not quiet a busy Metro carriage or a flight.

Open-Ear: What It Gives and What It Cannot Do
Most earbuds seal the ear canal with a silicone tip; the Soundcore V40i does not enter the ear at all. A flexible hook holds a small speaker just outside the canal, pointed inward. The benefit is awareness: you hear a car behind you on a cycling lane, a trainer calling your name or a colleague at the next desk without removing anything, and nothing sits inside a hot ear canal on a summer run. The cost is isolation. soundcore lists no noise cancelling, and an open design cannot block outside sound, so in a mall or on a plane you will raise the volume, and at high volume people nearby may hear some of your music.
Four Hook Levels and the 7.5 dB Bass Figure
The Soundcore V40i is built around a 4-level adjustable ear hook. Moving the hook changes where the speaker sits, and soundcore says it can bring the sound about 5.5 mm closer to the ear canal. soundcore claims up to 7.5 dB more bass, measured in its own lab against non-adjustable hooks; that compares hook positions, not open-ear against sealed earbuds, which will still go deeper. Behind the hooks are 16 x 13 mm drivers with a high-elastic diaphragm. soundcore says the hooks fit over 99% of ear shapes and sizes, and each earbud weighs 10.1 g. Try all four levels with a song you know well before settling.
Battery and Charging
soundcore rates the Soundcore V40i at 6 hours of playback per charge and 21 hours in total with the case; its support FAQ says a fully charged case gives the earbuds about 2.5 extra charges. soundcore does not publish the volume behind these figures, so expect less at the higher volumes open-ear listeners use outdoors. A 10-minute charge gives about 1.5 hours of playback, though the FAQ notes the earbuds do not support a separate fast-charging mode. The case does not charge wirelessly; it charges over the USB-C cable in the box. soundcore does not publish full charging times or battery capacity.
Bluetooth 5.4, Multipoint, Latency and Calls
The Soundcore V40i uses Bluetooth 5.4 with a 10 m range. Dual connection is on by default, so it can stay paired with a phone and a laptop at once, and the earbuds remember up to 8 devices. soundcore publishes latency of 230 ms on SBC, 320 ms on AAC and 135 ms in game mode, so turn game mode on for mobile games; it lists no LDAC or Hi-Res codec. Four microphones with AI noise filtering handle calls. Touch controls cover playback, and volume can be added in the soundcore app, which also offers 22 EQ presets and a custom EQ. There is no wear detection, so music does not pause when you remove a bud.
Black for Training Days
The Soundcore V40i is rated IP55, which covers dust and water jets: heavy sweat on a run, a sudden shower and the fine dust of a UAE summer. It does not cover immersion, so keep it out of the pool and from under the tap. The case is lid-free, with magnets that hold the buds and a light bar for status; dry the buds before you drop them in. Black is the practical choice for gym bags and outdoor training: it hides sweat marks, sunscreen and dust on the hooks, and looks discreet with sunglasses or a cap. The white version shares the same specifications.
Who This Is Not For
The Soundcore V40i is not for anyone who wants to block noise on flights, the Metro or in open offices: it has no noise cancelling and an open design. A sealed earbud will always give deeper bass. IP55 does not cover swimming. There is no wear detection, no wireless charging on the case and no LDAC or Hi-Res codec, and soundcore does not publish the volume behind its 6-hour figure.
