The JBL Charge 6 Blue is the sixth-generation Charge in a deep, sea-like blue that looks at home by a pool, on a boat or on a beach towel. The colour covers the fabric body, and the speaker comes with a removable strap. Inside, a woofer rated at 30 W RMS and a tweeter rated at 15 W RMS work with AI Sound Boost, which analyses the music in real time to keep distortion down at high volume. JBL rates it IP68 and drop-tested it from 1 metre onto concrete, and the battery lasts up to 24 hours on a single charge.

Why blue: made for the sea and the pool
The JBL Charge 6 Blue suits people who spend their weekends at the beach, the marina or on a boat trip: the colour sits naturally next to water and sky and looks good in holiday photos. It is also a neutral choice that works for men, women and children alike, which makes it an easy gift when you are not sure of someone’s taste. A mid blue does not show dust and fine sand as quickly as white or sand-coloured finishes do. After a day at sea, rinse it under fresh water to clear the salt; the IP68 rating allows it, and it is the simplest way to keep the fabric looking new.

Sound and AI Sound Boost
JBL rates the woofer at 30 W RMS and the tweeter at 15 W RMS, with a frequency response of 56 Hz to 20 kHz (-6 dB). AI Sound Boost analyses the audio signal continuously and drives the speakers harder without letting the sound break up at high volume. That matters outdoors, where there are no walls to reflect the sound and you tend to turn it up. The JBL Portable app adds customisable audio controls, and after an over-the-air update the JBL Charge 6 Blue can play lossless audio over USB-C from a laptop or another compatible lossless source.

IP68 and a 1-metre drop test
JBL bases the IP68 rating on lab tests with submersion in up to 1.5 metres of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, and says the speaker survives a drop from 1 metre onto a concrete floor. That covers splashes, a fall into the pool and a slide off the table; it does not make the speaker a swimming companion or something to leave sitting in salt water. The removable strap makes it easy to carry by hand or hang from a beach bag, a stroller or a tent pole. Rinse sand and salt off the JBL Charge 6 Blue with fresh water rather than rubbing them into the fabric.

Battery, quick charge and powerbank
JBL quotes up to 24 hours of playtime on a single charge, and Playtime Boost adds about 4 more hours, for up to 28. A full charge takes about 3 hours, and 10 minutes on the charger gives up to 150 minutes of playback. The speaker also works as a powerbank, charging your phone while the music plays, though JBL notes it cannot charge laptops. Plan for one thing before the first trip: the charging cable is not in the box, so you need your own USB-C cable and a wall adapter to recharge the JBL Charge 6 Blue.

Bluetooth 5.4 and Auracast
The JBL Charge 6 Blue connects over Bluetooth 5.4 with the A2DP 1.4 and AVRCP 1.6 profiles and supports Auracast. You can stereo-pair two Charge 6 speakers, whatever their colours, or send the same playlist to several Auracast-enabled JBL speakers to fill a garden or a majlis. It measures 22.9 × 9.9 × 9.4 cm and weighs 1.37 kg, heavier than the 0.96 kg Charge 5 but still easy to carry in one hand.

Who This Is Not For
The JBL Charge 6 Blue does not link with older PartyBoost speakers such as the Charge 5, because it uses Auracast. The charging cable is not included. JBL does not list a microphone for calls or a voice assistant, and there is no Wi-Fi. At 1.37 kg it is heavier than pocket speakers, and if you need deep bass for a large outdoor party, 45 W RMS in total will feel limited next to the Xtreme or Boombox range.
