Why choose the white colour
Samsung sells the Galaxy Buds FE in White and Graphite. The Galaxy Buds FE White suits people who want earbuds that look fresh and visible: in the ear the white stands out a little more, and in a dark bag the case is easier to find. It pairs naturally with white or silver phones and watch straps. The trade-off is care: the case can pick up marks from pockets and the ear tips show earwax faster than on Graphite, so wipe them and the case with a dry cloth now and then. If you prefer earbuds that disappear in the ear, Graphite is the quieter choice.
Noise cancelling and ambient sound
Active noise cancelling is on by default, Samsung says, and a touch-and-hold on the earbud switches between ANC and Ambient Sound. ANC works best against steady low sounds such as an aircraft cabin, a bus engine or an air conditioner, and less against sudden voices, as on any ANC earbud. Samsung does not publish how many decibels the Galaxy Buds FE White removes. Ambient Sound has three levels, set in the Galaxy Wearable app, so you can hear announcements at the airport or a colleague at the office without taking the earbuds out.
Sound, calls and microphones
Samsung uses a custom 1-way speaker in each earbud and describes the sound as enriched bass; the driver size is not published. The equaliser can be adjusted in the Galaxy Wearable app. Codecs are SSC (Samsung Scalable Codec), AAC and SBC over Bluetooth 5.2. For calls, the spec sheet lists six microphones, and Samsung describes a beamforming system with a DNN filter that reduces background noise around your voice. Talk time is up to 4 hours with ANC off (14 hours with the case) and 3.5 hours with ANC on (13 hours with the case).
Fit, wing tips and what is in the box
Each earbud weighs 5.6 g, and the Galaxy Buds FE White come with three sizes of ear tips (S, M fitted, L) and two sizes of wing tips (S/M and M/L fitted). The wing tip sits in the fold of the ear and keeps the earbud from slipping, which helps on a walk or in the gym. The Galaxy Wearable app has an earbud fit test. In the box Samsung lists the earbuds, the charging case, the ear and wing tips, a USB cable and a quick start guide. There is no power adapter.
Galaxy features and compatibility
Samsung lists compatibility with Android 8.0 or later on devices with more than 1.5 GB of RAM. With a Galaxy phone you also get Auto Switch between Galaxy devices, automatic connection to supported Samsung TVs and SmartThings Find, which shows the last known location of the Galaxy Buds FE White and can ring them if you leave them behind. Samsung notes that some features may not work on non-Samsung devices. Samsung does not list iPhone support or an IP water rating for the Galaxy Buds FE.
Who This Is Not For
The Galaxy Buds FE White are not for runners or gym users who sweat heavily, because Samsung publishes no IP water or sweat rating. They are not the best fit for iPhone owners, since Samsung lists Android as the requirement and the Galaxy features need a Samsung phone. Audiophiles who need high-resolution codecs such as LDAC or aptX will not find them here. And white earbuds need more frequent cleaning to keep looking new.
