The JBL Pulse 4 White is the light-show speaker from JBL in its pale finish. Its cylindrical body is wrapped in a high-resolution, 360-degree LED panel that moves with the music, and in white the whole speaker looks like a soft lamp even when the lights are dimmed. Underneath is a single 2.25-inch driver rated at 20W RMS, an IPX7 waterproof body and a 26 Wh battery that JBL rates at up to 12 hours, a figure that changes with light brightness, volume and content. The JBL Pulse 4 is the predecessor of the Pulse 5 and a different product, with its own specifications.

A 360-degree LED lightshow
The whole JBL Pulse 4 White body is a high-resolution LED display that wraps all the way around. The JBL Connect app lets you pick light themes and patterns or design your own, and the speaker can run as an ambient light whether music is playing or not. If you have another Pulse 4 nearby, hold the two speakers close and shake one to sync their light shows. On the white model the diffuser looks milky when the LEDs are off, and the colours spread more softly through it, so the effect is closer to mood lighting than to a club display.
Why the white
White suits buyers who want the JBL Pulse 4 to sit in a bedroom, a living room or a white-themed majlis and look like a design piece rather than a gadget. It matches white phones, white furniture and light walls, and in the evening it doubles as a gentle night lamp. The trade-off is upkeep: the JBL Pulse 4 White shows fingerprints, dust and travel grime more than black, so wipe it with a soft damp cloth regularly, and if you plan to take it to dusty campsites often, the black model hides wear better.
Sound: one 20W driver
JBL fits a single 2.25-inch driver rated at 20W RMS, with a frequency response of about 70 Hz to 20 kHz and a signal-to-noise ratio above 80 dB. JBL publishes only the RMS figure, not a peak number. The 360-degree speaker array spreads sound around the cylinder, which suits a bedroom, a balcony or a small garden gathering where people sit around the speaker. It is not built to fill a large outdoor party; that is where JBL’s bigger PartyBox or Xtreme models make more sense.
Battery and charging
The JBL Pulse 4 White runs on a 26 Wh lithium-ion polymer battery (3.6 V, 7,260 mAh). JBL rates it at up to 12 hours of play and notes that the figure depends on light brightness, volume and the music itself, so lowering the light intensity is the easiest way to stretch a charge. Charging takes about 3.5 hours from a 5 V / 3 A USB-C source. The box includes a JBL USB-C cable but no wall charger, so use a good 15 W USB-C charger for the quoted time.
IPX7 and size
IPX7 means the JBL Pulse 4 White is waterproof and can be submerged up to about one metre (three feet), so a fall into the pool or a sudden downpour is covered. The X means there is no dust rating, so rinse sand off with fresh water and keep the charging port clean. The speaker measures 96 × 96 × 207 mm and weighs 1.26 kg, light enough to carry from room to room but heavier than a pocket speaker.
Pulse 4 or Pulse 5?
The Pulse 5 is JBL’s newer model. It adds a separate tweeter for 40W RMS in total, Bluetooth 5.3 instead of 4.2 and IP67 dust and water protection instead of IPX7, but it weighs more. The JBL Pulse 4 White remains a sensible choice when you want the lightshow at a lower price and weight, and PartyBoost lets it pair with compatible JBL speakers for stereo or a bigger setup.
Who This Is Not For
The JBL Pulse 4 White has no dust rating, so it is not ideal for sandy beach trips, and the white body shows dirt quickly. It uses the older Bluetooth 4.2, has no aux input, and JBL does not list a microphone or speakerphone. No wall charger is included. If you need loud sound for a large outdoor crowd, 20W RMS from one driver will feel limited.
