The Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter is the highest-wattage USB-C adapter in Apple’s range, and the one Apple pairs with the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021 or later) for fast charging. It has a single USB-C port, and Apple says it takes that laptop to about 50% in roughly 30 minutes with the right cable. The detail many buyers miss: the box holds the adapter only, so you need a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable or a 240W USB-C Charge Cable to get that speed.

Fast charging the 16-inch MacBook Pro
The 16-inch MacBook Pro carries a large battery, and smaller adapters charge it noticeably slower. Apple’s figure for the Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter is up to 50% in about 30 minutes, on a 16-inch MacBook Pro from 2021 or later, using a USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable or a 240W USB-C Charge Cable. Apple’s footnote says the test used drained pre-production units with M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, and that real charge times vary with settings and environment. Exporting video or running heavy apps while plugged in will stretch it.
Which cable to use with it
Apple puts no cable in the box, and the cable decides what you actually get. For fast charging a 16-inch MacBook Pro, Apple recommends the USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable or the 240W USB-C Charge Cable. Ordinary USB-C cables rated for 60W or 100W still work with the Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter, but power stops at the cable’s own rating, so the laptop charges more slowly. The MagSafe 3 cable that came with your MacBook Pro is all you need; for an iPhone or iPad, any good USB-C cable will do.
Charging iPhone, iPad and other Apple devices
Apple lists a wide compatibility range: iPhone 15 and later (including iPhone Air, iPhone 16e and iPhone 17e), most recent iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad and iPad mini models, MacBook Air with M1 and later, MacBook Pro from 2019 onward and MacBook Neo, plus AirPods and Apple Vision Pro. 140W is a ceiling, not what every device receives. Each device draws only the power it is designed to accept, so an iPhone charges at its normal speed from the Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter with no risk to the battery. Apple Watch still needs its own charging puck.
One adapter for the desk and the bag
If you carry a 16-inch MacBook Pro with an iPad and an iPhone, one Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter can replace several chargers, with one caveat: a single port means one device at a time. Many owners keep it as a second charger on the office desk while the original stays at home. It is larger than a phone charger but smaller than packing two adapters. Apple does not publish its weight or dimensions on the product page.
Who it suits
The first buyer is the 16-inch MacBook Pro owner who wants the fast charging the laptop was designed around, as a replacement or as a spare for the office. Photographers and video editors on long sessions benefit most, because a short break puts a large share of the battery back. It also suits anyone with several Apple devices who wants one high-wattage adapter able to handle the largest of them.
Who This Is Not For
If you only own a MacBook Air or a 14-inch MacBook Pro, you do not need this much: those laptops do not use the full output, and a smaller, lighter adapter costs less. It cannot charge two devices at once, since there is only one USB-C port. The cable is not included, so budget for a MagSafe 3 or 240W USB-C cable if you do not have one. It is also bulkier than a phone charger.

Apple 140W USB-C Power Adapter FAQ

No. The box contains the adapter only. Apple sells the USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable and USB-C cables separately.
Does it fast-charge the 16-inch MacBook Pro?
Yes. Apple says up to 50% in about 30 minutes on a 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021 or later) with a MagSafe 3 cable or a 240W USB-C Charge Cable.
Is it safe for an iPhone?
Yes. Each device draws only the power it accepts, and Apple lists iPhone 15 and later as compatible.
Do I need it for a MacBook Air?
