Description

The JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 is the second generation of JBL’s smallest battery PartyBox: the same 100W RMS rating as the original Encore Essential, but with a battery rated for up to 15 hours instead of 6, a guitar input next to the mic input, AI Sound Boost and Auracast in place of the older True Wireless Stereo pairing. This page puts those changes first, using JBL’s own spec sheets for both models.

JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 vs the first Encore Essential

Both generations are rated at 100W RMS, run on battery or mains, and carry an IPX4 splash rating. The differences are elsewhere, and they are substantial. Battery: JBL rates the JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 at up to 15 hours from a 34 Wh pack, against up to 6 hours from a 17.76 Wh pack on the original. Inputs: the new model has a mic and guitar input with karaoke EQ tuning; the first generation lists a wired mic input only. Linking: the Encore Essential 2 uses Auracast, where the original pairs two units through True Wireless Stereo.

The speaker hardware changed too. The first model uses a 5.25-inch woofer with two 1.75-inch tweeters and reaches down to 50 Hz (-6 dB); the Encore Essential 2 keeps a 5.25-inch (135 mm) woofer but moves to two 20 mm dome tweeters and quotes 40 Hz to 20 kHz (-6 dB). Bluetooth goes from 5.1 to 5.4, and the new cabinet weighs 6.2 kg against 5.9 kg. If you are weighing the two side by side, our JBL PartyBox Encore Essential page covers the first generation.

100W RMS and AI Sound Boost

JBL states the output as 100W RMS measured to IEC60268, a continuous rating rather than a peak figure. AI Sound Boost is new on this generation: JBL says it delivers more powerful sound with less distortion when the volume is turned up, which is where small party speakers usually start to strain.

The signal-to-noise ratio is above 80 dB. The JBL PartyBox app controls the music, the EQ settings and the lightshow, and the lightshow itself uses glowing light patterns and strobe effects that follow the beat.

Battery, mains power and USB-C on the JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2

JBL rates playtime at up to 15 hours, and notes that it varies with volume level and audio content; a loud outdoor session with the lights on will use it faster. The built-in battery is 34 Wh, and JBL quotes a charge time under 3.5 hours with the speaker switched off.

The JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 has a 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz AC input, so it plugs straight into a UAE socket with the supplied power cord. The USB-C port does three jobs according to JBL’s manual: playing music from a USB storage device, connecting a phone, tablet or computer, and charging your phone, with a charge-out rating of up to 11 V / 2 A when the speaker is off.

Karaoke and guitar input

The rear panel has a 6.35 mm input for a wired microphone or a guitar, with its own volume and gain controls and karaoke EQ tuning built in. There is also a 3.5 mm AUX input for a wired audio source; JBL notes that the cable is not supplied.

No microphone is included in the box. JBL lists the speaker, a quick-start guide, a safety and warranty card and the AC power cord, so budget for a wired mic if karaoke is the plan.

Auracast and linking more speakers

Auracast lets you pair two JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 units for true stereo, or add other Auracast-enabled JBL speakers to the same party. JBL does not list the first-generation Encore Essential, which uses True Wireless Stereo, as an Auracast partner, so plan on pairing the new model with other Auracast JBL speakers.

Size, handle and splash protection

The cabinet measures 319.5 x 342 x 260.4 mm and weighs 6.2 kg, with a grab-and-go handle on top. That is a one-hand carry from the car to the garden, not a speaker for a long walk to the beach.

IPX4 protects against splashes from any direction: pool spray, spilled drinks and light rain. It is not a dust rating and it does not cover immersion, so keep it off wet sand and out of the pool. The housing uses post-consumer recycled plastic, and the packaging uses FSC-certified paper.

Who This Is Not For

At 6.2 kg, the JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 is heavier than any strap-carried speaker, and it has a handle rather than wheels. IPX4 is splash protection only, with no dust rating, which matters on sand. There is no microphone in the box, and the AUX cable is not supplied either.

If you already own the first Encore Essential and want a stereo pair, note that the two generations use different linking systems. And if you only need background music for a small room, a 100W party speaker is more than you need.

Up to 15 hours by JBL’s rating, varying with volume level and audio content. The first-generation Encore Essential is rated at up to 6 hours.

Does the JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2 come with a microphone?

No. The box holds the speaker, a quick-start guide, a safety and warranty card and the AC power cord. It has a wired mic/guitar input, so any wired microphone with a 6.35 mm plug works.

Can I plug in a guitar?

Yes. The 6.35 mm input takes a guitar or a microphone, with separate volume and gain controls.

Is it louder than the first Encore Essential?

No, not on paper. Both are rated at 100W RMS; JBL adds AI Sound Boost to the new model to reduce distortion at high volume.

Can it pair with the original Encore Essential?

No, not as a listed pairing. The Encore Essential 2 uses Auracast, while the first generation uses True Wireless Stereo, and JBL does not list the older model as an Auracast partner.

Does it work on UAE mains power?

Yes. The AC input is rated 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz, and the power cord is included.
