The CMF Buds 2 Plus Light Grey is the top model of CMF’s Buds 2 family: a pale grey pair that puts strong noise cancellation, LDAC Hi-Res audio and long battery life into a budget price. Nothing quotes up to 50dB of hybrid ANC (a theoretical lab maximum), a custom 12mm dynamic driver with an LCP + PU diaphragm, six microphones for calls and up to 61.5 hours of playback with the case when streaming AAC with ANC off. The earbuds are rated IP55, the case IPX2, and it connects to two devices at once over Bluetooth 5.4.

50dB hybrid noise cancellation
Nothing rates the hybrid ANC on the CMF Buds 2 Plus Light Grey at up to 50dB, working across frequencies up to 5,400Hz, and is honest that this is a theoretical lab maximum. In practice the seal of the ear tip matters most, so try the S, M and L tips in the box before judging it. There are three modes: Smart Adaptive, which adjusts strength to the noise around you; Environmental Adaptive ANC; and Transparency, which lets in voices and announcements. Tap and hold on either bud to switch between ANC and Transparency without picking up your phone.
12mm driver and LDAC Hi-Res audio
Each bud uses a custom 12mm dynamic driver with an LCP + PU diaphragm. The CMF Buds 2 Plus Light Grey supports SBC, AAC and LDAC, so an Android phone with LDAC can stream Hi-Res wireless audio rather than the compressed codecs most budget earbuds use. iPhones do not support LDAC and use AAC instead. Through the Nothing X app you get a Spatial Audio Effect with HRTF processing, a Personal Sound Profile tuned to your hearing, Ultra Bass Technology 2.0 and a custom equaliser.
Battery: what the numbers mean
Battery life on the CMF Buds 2 Plus Light Grey depends heavily on codec and ANC, and Nothing publishes every combination. With AAC and ANC off you get up to 14 hours from the buds and 61.5 hours with the case. Turn ANC or Transparency on and that becomes 7.5 and 33 hours. LDAC costs more power: 8 and 36 hours with ANC off, or 5.5 and 25 hours with ANC on. A 10-minute charge gives up to 4.5 hours of AAC playback with ANC off, and a full charge of case and buds over USB-C takes about 95 minutes.
Light Grey and who it suits
The light grey is a soft, neutral shade that matches white and silver phones and looks clean on a desk or in a gym bag. It does show pocket lint and marks sooner than the Blue version, so wipe the case with a dry cloth now and then. The CMF Buds 2 Plus Light Grey suits commuters and students who want real noise cancellation on a budget, Android users who want LDAC, and anyone who works between a laptop and a phone thanks to dual connection.
The rest, in brief
Six microphones (three per bud) with Clear Voice Technology 3.0 and Wind Noise Reduction 3.0 handle calls. Bluetooth 5.4 has a 10m range and supports dual connection, Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. Low lag mode reduces delay for games and video. In-ear detection, find-my-earbuds and an LED charging indicator are included. Each bud weighs 4.5g and the case 42.5g. The CMF Buds 2 Plus Light Grey works with Android 6.0+ and iOS 13+.
Who This Is Not For
The CMF Buds 2 Plus Light Grey is not for iPhone users who are buying it for LDAC, because iPhones do not support it. Battery life roughly halves with LDAC and ANC on together (5.5 hours per charge). Nothing does not mention wireless charging. The case is only IPX2, so it should stay dry even though the buds are IP55. And a pale case shows dirt sooner than the Blue version.
