Description

The Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition is a complete Nintendo Switch 2 system dressed for Hyrule, released by Nintendo on 29 October 2026 to celebrate forty years of The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo pairs green and gold Joy-Con 2 controllers with a black and gold dock that carries the Triforce on its front, and adds patterns and symbols across the back of the console and the dock. Nintendo also states plainly that no game is included, so the box holds the hardware and its accessories only.

What Sets the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Apart

Everything special about the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition is visual; the electronics are the standard Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo describes the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition as inspired by the Legend of Zelda series. The dock is black and gold, with a large Triforce on the front made of gold triangles and the Hylian crest at its centre, while darker triangles fade across the rest of the panel. Turn the console around and the back plate continues the triangle pattern in black and gold. Nintendo Japan lists Triforce motifs on the back of the system, on the dock and on the Joy-Con 2 controllers, and describes the console, the Joy-Con 2, the wrist straps and the dock as special-design parts.

The Joy-Con 2 pair of the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition is a soft green with gold accents and Zelda-inspired decorations; a small gold Triforce sits on the left controller. Even the two Joy-Con 2 straps follow the theme. The front of the 7.9-inch screen keeps the usual black bezel, so nothing distracts from games while you play in handheld mode.

What Nintendo Puts in the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Box

Nintendo of America lists the contents as the Nintendo Switch 2 system, left and right Joy-Con 2 controllers in green and gold, the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter, a USB-C charging cable, the Nintendo Switch 2 dock, the Joy-Con 2 Grip, two Joy-Con 2 straps and an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. The grip is the regular black one. There is no game card and no download code: Nintendo marks the product “Game not included” on its store page and in its Japanese announcement. Nintendo does not sell this edition as a bundle with a Zelda title, so plan to buy your first game separately.

About regional versions: Nintendo sells the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition in several regions. Nintendo states that the Japan-market model is a Japanese-language system sold only in Japan, so an English-speaking buyer should avoid that version. The plug on the AC adapter follows the region of the version supplied; if it is not a UK three-pin plug, a simple plug adapter is needed for UAE sockets. Ask us which version is in stock before ordering.

The Switch 2 Hardware Underneath

Under the gold paint, the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition is the same machine Nintendo sells in its standard box. The screen is a 7.9-inch wide colour gamut LCD at 1920 x 1080 with capacitive touch, HDR10 and VRR up to 120 Hz. A custom NVIDIA processor drives it, and internal storage is 256 GB UFS, part of which the system reserves. You add space with microSD Express cards up to 2 TB; ordinary microSD cards can only copy screenshots and videos from a Nintendo Switch.

In TV mode the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition dock sends video over HDMI at up to 4K at 60 fps, or 120 fps at 1920 x 1080 or 2560 x 1440 in supported games, and 5.1-channel linear PCM audio. The dock also adds two USB ports and a wired LAN port. Away from the TV, Nintendo rates the 5220 mAh battery at roughly 2 to 6.5 hours depending on the game, with about 3 hours to charge in sleep mode. Each Joy-Con 2 has a 500 mAh battery rated at about 20 hours, a mouse sensor and HD Rumble 2.

Zelda Games and Matching Accessories

The game card slot accepts both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch game cards, and Nintendo notes that some Switch games may not be fully compatible. Nintendo has announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2 for 5 November 2026, one week after the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, sold separately. Nintendo also released two themed accessories on 29 October 2026, both sold separately: a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller in the same Triforce style, offered with or without a display stand, and a carrying case with a screen protector. None of these items come in this box.

GameChat, Nintendo’s voice and video chat, uses the console’s built-in microphone with noise and echo cancellation. Nintendo notes that GameChat needs an internet connection, a Nintendo Account and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and video chat also needs a compatible USB camera sold separately.

Collector or Player?

Many buyers treat the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition as two things at once. For a long-time fan, it is a display piece: the dock looks like a relic from Hyrule on a TV stand, and the box art carries the 40th anniversary crest. For a player, it is simply a Switch 2 with nicer colours. If you plan to keep it as a collectable, keep the outer box and inner trays in good condition. If you want it as a gift, remember the recipient will need a game, a microSD Express card if they buy many digital titles, and possibly the matching case to protect the green controllers. Nintendo has not published production numbers, so we cannot say how limited this edition is.

Who This Is Not For

Skip the Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition if you only want the cheapest way into Switch 2: the standard console has the same specifications and usually costs less. It is not for buyers who expect a Zelda game in the box, because Nintendo includes none. It is not a good choice if you need a model with a UK plug guaranteed, since the plug depends on the regional version supplied. Parents should know the green Joy-Con 2 and gold dock show scratches and fingerprints more readily than plain black. If you play mostly on the go, remember Nintendo rates battery life at only about 2 hours in demanding games. Finally, it is a poor fit for anyone who wants only Japanese-market stock but full English menus, since Nintendo sells that version as a Japanese-language system.
