The CMF Buds 2a Light Grey are the entry model in CMF by Nothing’s Buds 2 family, in a soft, neutral grey. They bring active noise cancellation to a low price: Nothing quotes up to 42dB of ANC, a custom 12.4mm dynamic driver with a bio-fibre and TPU diaphragm, four microphones for calls and up to 35.5 hours of playback with the case when ANC is off. The buds are rated IP54 and the case IPX2, and Bluetooth 5.4 lets them stay connected to two devices at once.

Light Grey and who it suits
Light Grey is the quiet, neutral option among the three CMF Buds 2a colours (Dark Grey, Light Grey and Orange). It matches white, silver and pale-coloured phones and looks clean in a gym bag or on a desk. Being a light shade, the case shows pocket lint, scuffs and fingerprints sooner than Dark Grey, so give it a wipe with a dry cloth every so often. The CMF Buds 2a Light Grey suit students, commuters and anyone buying a first pair of noise-cancelling earbuds, a spare pair for training, or a gift that does not need to be expensive.
Up to 42dB active noise cancellation
Nothing rates the ANC on the CMF Buds 2a Light Grey at up to 42dB, working across frequencies up to 2,900Hz. That range covers low, steady sounds such as engines, air conditioning and road hum best, while higher-pitched voices will still come through to some degree. There are two modes, ANC and Transparency, and you switch between them by tapping and holding either bud. A good seal makes the biggest difference, so try the S, M and L ear tips in the box before judging the noise cancellation.
12.4mm driver tuned with Dirac
Each bud uses a custom 12.4mm dynamic driver with a bio-fibre and custom TPU diaphragm, tuned by Nothing and Dirac. Ultra Bass Technology adds weight to the low end, and the Nothing X app lets you change the equaliser and the touch controls. The CMF Buds 2a Light Grey support the SBC and AAC codecs only, with no LDAC, so they are made for everyday streaming, podcasts and calls rather than Hi-Res listening.
Battery: reading the numbers
Nothing measures playback with AAC. With ANC off the buds last up to 8 hours and the case brings the total to 35.5 hours. With ANC or Transparency on, that becomes 5 and 23 hours. Talk time is up to 4 hours per charge with ANC off and 3.5 hours with ANC on. A 10-minute charge gives up to 2 hours from the buds or 5.5 hours with the case (ANC off). A full charge of case and buds over USB-C takes about 89 minutes. Nothing does not list wireless charging for the CMF Buds 2a Light Grey.
Calls, connection and controls
Four microphones in total work with Clear Voice Technology and Wind Noise Reduction 2.0 to keep your voice clear on calls. Bluetooth 5.4 has a 10m range, supports dual connection with two devices, plus Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. With a Nothing phone in Game Mode, latency drops below 110ms. Touch controls: double tap to skip forward or answer and end calls, triple tap to skip back or reject calls, and tap and hold to change noise mode. The CMF Buds 2a Light Grey work with Android 6.0+ and iOS 13+.
Who This Is Not For
The CMF Buds 2a Light Grey are not for anyone who wants Hi-Res audio: there is no LDAC, only SBC and AAC. The ANC is tuned for low-frequency noise up to 2,900Hz, so voices and sharp sounds are reduced less than on the Buds 2 Plus. Battery life drops to 5 hours per charge with ANC on. Nothing does not list wireless charging, the case is only IPX2, and no charging cable is listed in the box.
