The Logitech G309 LIGHTSPEED is a wireless gaming mouse in black that runs on a single AA battery: Logitech quotes more than 300 hours of play over LIGHTSPEED at a 1 ms report rate, and more than 600 hours over Bluetooth. Inside are the HERO 25K sensor and LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches. It weighs 86 g with the AA battery fitted, or 68 g when it runs from a POWERPLAY mat instead.

Why the Logitech G309 Uses an AA Battery
Most wireless gaming mice carry a built-in rechargeable cell. The Logitech G309 takes a different route: one standard AA battery. Logitech rates an alkaline AA at 300 hours of battery life at a 1 kHz report rate over LIGHTSPEED, and 600 hours over Bluetooth. That is weeks of daily play between battery changes, and when it does run out, a fresh AA from any supermarket has you back in the game in seconds, with no cable and no waiting for a charge.
The second route is POWERPLAY. The Logitech G309 is compatible with the Logitech G POWERPLAY wireless charging system, sold separately. On a POWERPLAY mat you take the AA battery out and the mat powers the mouse directly, which drops the weight from 86 g to 68 g.
HERO 25K Sensor
The sensor is Logitech’s HERO 25K. Logitech lists a range of 100 to 25,600 DPI, tracking speed above 400 IPS, acceleration above 40 G, and zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration. In practice that means the cursor moves exactly as far as your hand does, whether you flick fast in a shooter or make small corrections at low sensitivity.
A 32-bit ARM processor runs the mouse. Over LIGHTSPEED you can choose a HI mode at 1 kHz (1 ms) or a LO mode at 125 Hz (8 ms); the lower rate stretches the battery further when you are not gaming. Bluetooth runs at 125 Hz.
LIGHTFORCE Hybrid Switches
The main buttons use LIGHTFORCE hybrid optical-mechanical switches. Logitech describes them as combining optical actuation, for speed and reliability, with the crisp tactile click of a mechanical switch. The optical part registers the click, so the switch is not relying on a metal contact alone to report a press.
The Logitech G309 has six programmable buttons that you set up in Logitech G HUB. The mouse stores one profile out of the box and up to five with G HUB, so your bindings travel with it between a desktop and a laptop.
LIGHTSPEED and Bluetooth
Two wireless modes are built in. LIGHTSPEED uses the included USB-A receiver for Logitech’s low-latency 2.4 GHz link, with a range of up to 10 m. Bluetooth LE connects without the receiver, which is handy for a work laptop or a tablet when you do not want to use a USB port. You switch between them on the mouse.
The shell measures 120 × 64 × 39 mm, and PTFE feet glide on the underside. Three indicator LEDs show status, and the on/off switch sits underneath so it is not pressed by accident.
The Logitech G309 in Black
This listing is the black Logitech G309. Logitech also makes the G309 in white; black hides fingerprints and wear on the main buttons better over the months, and it sits quietly next to a dark keyboard and mousepad.
Who This Is Not For
If you want a built-in rechargeable battery and a USB-C cable, this is not your mouse: the Logitech G309 runs on an AA battery, or on a POWERPLAY mat you buy separately. Competitive players who want 4 kHz or 8 kHz polling should also look elsewhere, because LIGHTSPEED here tops out at 1 kHz and Bluetooth at 125 Hz.
At 86 g with the battery, it is heavier than the ultralight mice many FPS players now use; only the POWERPLAY setup brings it to 68 g. And there is no RGB lighting, only three status LEDs.
