Description

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C is a 2-in-1 robot that vacuums and mops in one run, guided by LDS laser navigation and powered by suction of up to 5000Pa. It returns to a simple charging dock rather than a self-emptying station, which keeps the footprint small and the setup simple. This page explains what each number means in a real home, how the mopping works, and what the S40C does not do.

What the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C Does

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C (model E101) is a round 340 × 340 × 97 mm robot that sweeps, vacuums and wet-mops hard floors. You fit either the standard dustbin or the combined mop and water tank assembly, set the rooms in the Xiaomi Home app and let it run on a schedule.

It should not be confused with the Xiaomi S40 Pro, a different model that we list separately. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C comes with a plain charging dock only: there is no auto-empty bag, no mop washing and no hot-air drying at the dock. You empty the dustbin and rinse the mop pad by hand.

5000Pa Suction and Four Modes

Xiaomi rates the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C at 5000Pa of suction, measured in Turbo mode with a full battery in Xiaomi’s lab. The four modes are Silent, Standard, Strong and Turbo: Silent suits night-time runs and homes with sleeping children, Standard handles daily dust on tiles and marble, and Strong or Turbo are for rugs, sand tracked in from the balcony and pet hair.

The dustbin holds 520ml (at least 520ml, per Xiaomi’s overflow test), enough for several runs in a typical apartment before you need to empty it. The app also offers a carpet preference setting, so the robot can treat rugs differently from hard floors.

LDS Mapping and App Control

An LDS laser sensor scans 360° around the robot to map rooms quickly and plan an efficient route, and Xiaomi says the map memory stops it from cleaning the same area twice and helps it find its way back to the dock. In the Xiaomi Home app you can clean selected rooms or zones, draw virtual walls and restricted areas, set schedules, choose suction and water levels, and receive over-the-air updates.

The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C connects over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n), so it needs a router that broadcasts a 2.4GHz network. Voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant is supported, with availability depending on region and language. Multiple sensors help it avoid falls on stairs, and it can climb steps of up to 20mm, a figure Xiaomi measured with a dry mop pad.

Mopping: How the 2-in-1 Module Works

For mopping, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C uses a mop and water tank assembly with a mop pad fitted, holding 260ml of water. Electronic water-flow control offers three output levels, so you can use a lighter setting on wooden floors and a wetter one on tiles and porcelain.

Xiaomi does not list a rotating, vibrating or lifting mop for the S40C, so treat mopping as a daily wipe-down that removes fresh dust and light marks, not a scrub for dried stains. Remove the mop module before the robot crosses rugs, and wash the pad after each use; Xiaomi’s manual recommends replacing it every 3 to 6 months.

The Dock, Power and Upkeep

The charging dock (model E101CDZ) is rated 20V ⎓ 0.6A for both input and output. It is powered by the included adapter, which Xiaomi’s manual rates at 100–240V ~ 50/60Hz, 0.5A input and 20V ⎓ 0.6A (12W) output, so it runs on the UAE’s 220–240V mains without a converter. The robot itself runs at 14.4V with a 55W rated power and a 2,400mAh rated (2,600mAh nominal) battery.

Xiaomi does not publish runtime or charging time on its spec page for the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C. For upkeep, the manual suggests cleaning the main brush and filter weekly and the side brush every two weeks, replacing the side brush every 3 to 6 months, the main brush every 6 to 12 months and the filter every 3 to 6 months.

Who This Is Not For

If you want a robot that empties itself or washes its own mop, the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40C is not it; its dock only charges. Homes with many loose cables, socks or pet mess on the floor also need care, because Xiaomi lists multiple sensors but no camera-based object recognition.

Thresholds higher than 20mm can stop it, the mop pad is a simple pad rather than a scrubbing mop, and Xiaomi does not publish a runtime, so owners of very large villas should expect to split cleaning across several runs. It also needs a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network.
