The DJI Mini 4K is the simplest way into DJI’s drone line-up. It weighs 246 g with battery, propellers and microSD card, folds to 138 x 81 x 58 mm, and carries a 1/2.3-inch CMOS camera with 12 effective megapixels on a three-axis mechanical gimbal. Video goes up to 4K at 30fps and 2.7K or 1080p at up to 60fps. DJI rates the flight time at up to 31 minutes, measured at 17 km/h in still air, and the OcuSync 2.0 link reaches up to 10 km under FCC rules. This box is the standard kit in gray with the DJI RC-N1C controller, which holds your phone as the screen through the DJI Fly app.

Camera and gimbal
The 1/2.3-inch sensor sits behind a 24 mm equivalent f/2.8 lens with an 83-degree field of view and focus from 1 m. Photos are 4,000 x 3,000 pixels in JPEG or DNG RAW, and video is recorded in H.264 at up to 100 Mbps: 4K at 24, 25 or 30fps, and 2.7K or 1080p at up to 60fps. The DJI Mini 4K gimbal stabilises tilt, roll and pan mechanically with an angular vibration range of plus or minus 0.01 degrees, so footage stays steady without the cropping of electronic stabilisation. Digital zoom reaches 2x in 4K, 3x in 2.7K and 4x in 1080p. ISO runs from 100 to 3,200, so evening footage gets noisy sooner than on larger sensors.

Flight time and wind
DJI measures the 31-minute figure flying at 17 km/h in windless conditions; hovering, climbing and wind will shorten it. Top speed is 16 m/s in Sport mode near sea level, and DJI rates wind resistance at 10.7 m/s, Level 5 on the Beaufort scale. The maximum service ceiling is 4,000 m. Hover accuracy is plus or minus 0.1 m vertically with vision positioning and plus or minus 1.5 m horizontally with GPS. The DJI Mini 4K uses GPS, GLONASS and Galileo, and returns to its home point automatically when the signal is lost or the battery runs low.

Transmission and controller
Video and control travel over OcuSync 2.0 with a 720p/30fps live view and about 200 ms of latency. DJI lists 10 km under FCC rules and 6 km under CE, SRRC and MIC rules, unobstructed and without interference; in a city centre it expects about 3 km. The DJI RC-N1C controller has no screen of its own: you clip in a phone with a Lightning, USB-C or Micro USB port, up to 180 x 86 x 10 mm, and fly through DJI Fly. DJI rates the RC-N1C at up to 4 hours of operating time, and it can charge the phone while you fly.

Battery and charging
The Intelligent Flight Battery is a 2,250 mAh, 7.7 V Li-ion pack of 17.32 Wh that weighs 82.5 g. DJI’s manual gives about 1 hour 22 minutes to charge with the DJI 18 W USB charger, and charging is allowed between 5 and 40 degrees C. In a UAE summer, let the DJI Mini 4K battery cool down in the shade after a flight before charging it. There is no internal storage, so footage goes on a UHS-I Speed Grade 3 microSD card; DJI’s recommended list runs from 16 GB to 256 GB.

Who it suits
The DJI Mini 4K suits a first-time pilot who wants stable 4K holiday footage, a property or farm owner who needs a quick look from above, or a content creator who wants aerial shots without a big investment. One-tap takeoff and landing, return-to-home and stable hovering make the first flights easy, and QuickShots modes in DJI Fly fly preset cinematic moves around a subject. Because the airframe is small, it packs in a bag pocket, but small drones also drift more in strong gusts, so keep flights within its wind rating.

Who This Is Not For
The DJI Mini 4K has no obstacle avoidance: only a downward vision and infrared system for low-altitude hovering, so it will not stop before a wall or tree. It records 8-bit H.264 only, with no 10-bit or log profile, and 4K stops at 30fps. The controller needs your phone as a screen. The operating range is 0 to 40 degrees C, which midday UAE summer heat can exceed, and in the UAE every drone must be registered and flown under GCAA and local rules, even under 250 g.
