Active Noise Cancelling with Smart Ambient
JBL describes the JBL Wave Beam 2 noise cancelling as Active Noise Cancelling, not adaptive, so it holds one strength rather than adjusting itself to your surroundings. It is aimed at steady background noise such as air conditioning, traffic and the metro. Some older listings call these earbuds “adaptive ANC”; JBL’s own page does not.
Smart Ambient brings outside sound back when you need it. Ambient Aware lets you hear traffic or announcements while music plays, and TalkThru lowers the music so you can speak to someone without removing a bud.

JBL rates the buds at up to 10 hours with ANC off and up to 8 hours with ANC on. The case adds up to 30 hours, giving the 40-hour total, which applies with ANC off. Talk time is up to 6 hours. A full charge takes 2 hours, and 10 minutes of speed charging gives about 3 hours of playback, enough for a commute and back.
Sound, Calls and Controls
Each bud uses an 8mm dynamic driver tuned for JBL Pure Bass, with a 20Hz to 20kHz response, 16 ohm impedance and 100 dB sensitivity. The JBL Headphones app gives you an EQ to tone the bass down or bring vocals forward.
Two microphones in each bud handle calls and reduce background noise, and VoiceAware lets you hear your own voice so you do not raise it on a call. The JBL Wave Beam 2 support multi-point, so they stay connected to two devices at once, plus Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair for quick pairing.
Water and Dust: IP54 Buds, IPX2 Case
The earbuds are rated IP54 against dust and splashes, which covers sweat in the gym and light rain. The case carries IPX2, light protection against dripping water. Neither rating covers swimming or rinsing under a tap, and dust is only rated on the buds.
Who This Is Not For
Skip the JBL Wave Beam 2 if you want noise cancelling that adjusts automatically, or the strongest cancelling for long flights; this is a single-level Active ANC system. JBL does not list wireless charging, LE Audio or spatial audio. The 8mm drivers are smaller than the 10mm units in the Tune Buds, and battery drops to about 8 hours per charge once ANC is on.
