The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro is one of the few robots in its price bracket that tells you how its suction figure was obtained instead of just printing it large. It pairs that 15,000 Pa rating with LDS laser mapping, structured-light obstacle sensing and two rotating mop pads that extend out to the wall. What the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro does not have is a station: no auto-emptying, no mop washing, no water refilling. Every number below is Xiaomi’s own, with Xiaomi’s own conditions attached.

15,000 Pa, and Exactly How Xiaomi Measured It
Xiaomi rates the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro at 15,000 Pa, and unusually for this category it publishes the method. The footnote reads: the suction of the fan blower was measured to be up to 15000Pa using a vacuum gauge with a 0-35kPa measurement range and 0.01kPa precision at the inlet of a fully charged robot vacuum, and the data comes from Xiaomi Internal Labs.
Two details in that sentence do the real work. Measured at the inlet means the reading was taken at the robot’s intake, not at floor level through a brush head, so it describes the fan rather than what arrives at your carpet. And fully charged matters because suction on any battery robot falls as the pack drains. Even so, it is the most transparent suction claim at this price, because the gauge range and the measurement point are both disclosed, and most makers publish neither.
The same 15,000 Pa and the same footnote appear on Xiaomi’s global product page and on Xiaomi’s UAE page, so for the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro there is no regional disagreement to untangle.
99% of Large Particles, on Hard Floors, in One Mode
Xiaomi also publishes a pickup figure for the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro: a 99% collection rate for large particles on hard floors when operated in standard vacuuming mode. The conditions are the claim, so read them. Large particles, not fine dust. Hard floors, not carpet. Standard vacuuming mode, not a mopping pass.
Narrow as that is, it is genuinely useful, because it covers the debris households actually chase: crumbs, rice, cereal, pet litter and the sand that comes in on everyone’s shoes. Xiaomi publishes no fine-dust figure and no carpet-embedded figure for the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro, and we are not going to imply one exists.
Dual Extended Arms: Side Brush and Mop Pad
Xiaomi’s name for this is Dual Extended Mechanical Arms, and the point is that there are two of them. The side brush swings out from the body to reach into corners and along baseboards, and the mop pad extends as well, so the wet pass follows the wall instead of stopping a few centimetres short of it. On the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro these are two separate extending parts, which is worth knowing because an extending side brush on its own still leaves a dry strip at the skirting.
The main roller on the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro is a Y-shaped brush, and the side brush uses integrated end caps. Both exist for one reason: to stop long hair winding into the bearings. Anyone who has taken scissors to a robot brush will understand the design.
Two Rotating Mop Pads at 180 rpm
Mopping on the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro uses two rotating pads turning at 180 rpm, with three water flow levels. Rotation is what separates wiping from dragging: a spinning pad keeps pressure on the floor and keeps bringing a cleaner part of the cloth into contact with it.
On carpet the pads lift. Xiaomi states they raise automatically up to 10 mm, triggered by ultrasonic carpet detection, and the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro offers four carpet modes so you decide whether rugs are avoided, vacuumed harder, or crossed dry. In a mixed tile-and-rug apartment this is the feature that makes a single vacuum-and-mop pass safe to run unattended.
LDS Mapping and 129-Degree Structured Light
Navigation on the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro is LDS laser with 360-degree scanning and S-curve route planning, which means orderly rows instead of random bouncing, and a map in the Xiaomi Home app where you set no-go zones and send the robot to one room at a time.
For obstacles it adds what cheaper robots in this class go without: 129-degree ultra-wide-angle structured light, which projects a pattern and reads its distortion to judge shape and distance. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro can therefore see a cable or a chair leg rather than find it by bumping into it. Climbing capability is 20 mm, enough for most interior thresholds but not a raised bathroom lip. Xiaomi lists Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant alongside the Xiaomi Home app.
Battery, Coverage and the Charging Dock
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro carries a 5200 mAh nominal battery, which Xiaomi also lists as 4800 mAh rated capacity, and puts coverage at up to 180 square metres per charge. That figure arrives with a long condition: in an open environment under routine maintenance mode, at quiet suction level and level 1 water flow, with a full water tank and the robot set to vacuuming and mopping mode, the area recorded in the Xiaomi Home app was no less than 180 square metres. Push suction towards 15,000 Pa and the area covered falls well short of it.
Capacities are 430 mL for the dustbin and 310 mL for the water tank. The robot itself is model OV71GL, measuring 355 x 350 x 99 mm and weighing 4.2 kg, rated at 160 W with a 14.4 V internal rating and a 20 V charging voltage.
The dock that comes with the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro is a charging dock and nothing else: model OV71CDZ, 146 x 122 x 98.5 mm, taking 20 V DC at 1 A from the supplied power adapter. At that size it is a parking spot with charging pins. Xiaomi does not print the adapter’s AC input range on its specification page, so read the label on the adapter itself.
Who This Is Not For
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro has no station, and that is the single biggest reason to walk away. Nothing empties the 430 mL dustbin for you, nothing washes the two mop pads, nothing dries them, and nothing refills the 310 mL tank. In practice that means emptying the bin every few days and rinsing two pads by hand after every wet run. If deleting that chore was the whole point of buying a robot, no suction figure makes up for it.
The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro is also wrong for you if your thresholds are taller than 20 mm; if you need a published fine-dust or carpet pickup rate rather than a large-particle-on-hard-floor one; if you expect deep-pile carpet to come out properly clean, which no robot in this class manages; or if you were counting on 180 square metres at full power, since that figure is measured at quiet suction and the lowest water setting. A 310 mL tank also means a large tiled villa will want a refill part-way through.

FAQ
Does the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro empty itself?
No. There is no auto-empty station – the dock is a 146 x 122 x 98.5 mm charging dock only. You empty the 430 mL dustbin yourself and rinse the two mop pads by hand.
How was the 15,000 Pa suction figure measured?
15,000 Pa was measured at the inlet of a fully charged robot with a vacuum gauge of 0-35 kPa range and 0.01 kPa precision, in Xiaomi Internal Labs. It describes the fan blower, not suction at floor level.
Does it lift the mop pads on carpet?
Yes. Xiaomi states the pads raise automatically up to 10 mm when ultrasonic carpet detection triggers, and four carpet modes let you choose how rugs are treated.
Can the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro really cover 180 square metres on one charge?
180 square metres is Xiaomi’s figure, measured in an open environment under routine maintenance mode at quiet suction and level 1 water flow with a full tank. At 15,000 Pa the covered area is considerably smaller.
Does the Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S40 Pro see obstacles before hitting them?
Yes. It uses 129-degree ultra-wide-angle structured light to judge shape and distance, with LDS laser scanning for the floor plan. Climbing capability is 20 mm.
Does it work with Alexa?
Yes. Xiaomi lists Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant alongside the Xiaomi Home app.
