What Is in the Nintendo Switch 2 Console Box

Nintendo lists the contents of the Nintendo Switch 2 Console box as the console, the Joy-Con 2 controllers (L and R), the Joy-Con 2 grip, the Joy-Con 2 straps, the Nintendo Switch 2 dock, an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter and a USB-C charging cable. Everything needed for handheld play and for TV play is included.

The AC adapter accepts 100–240V at 50/60 Hz, so it works on UAE mains. Our current stock is the UK-specification unit, and its AC adapter comes with a 2-pin plug, so a UAE three-pin socket needs a simple plug adapter.

The 7.9-Inch Screen and Handheld Play

In handheld and tabletop mode the Nintendo Switch 2 Console uses a 7.9-inch wide colour gamut LCD at 1920 × 1080, with HDR10 support and variable refresh rate (VRR) up to 120 Hz. VRR lets the screen follow the game’s frame rate, which makes motion look smoother when a game does not hold a steady frame rate.

With the Joy-Con 2 attached, Nintendo lists the console at about 116 × 272 × 13.9 mm and about 534 g (about 401 g without the controllers). That is heavier than the original Switch, so long handheld sessions are more comfortable with the console resting on a table or lap.

The internal battery is 5220 mAh. Nintendo rates battery life at about 2 to 6.5 hours depending on the game, and a full charge takes about 3 hours with the console in sleep mode. Demanding games sit at the low end of that range.

TV Mode Through the Dock

Placed in the dock, the Nintendo Switch 2 Console outputs over HDMI at up to 3840 × 2160 (4K) at 60 fps, or at 120 fps when 1920 × 1080 or 2560 × 1440 is selected, with HDR10. Whether a game actually reaches 4K or 120 fps depends on the game itself. Audio supports 5.1-channel linear PCM over HDMI.

The dock has two USB 2.0 ports and a wired LAN port, so you can connect the Nintendo Switch 2 Console to your router with a cable for steadier online play and faster downloads than WiFi. The console itself supports WiFi 6.

Nintendo lists the dock at about 115 × 201 × 51.2 mm and 383 g.

Joy-Con 2, Mouse Controls and GameChat

The Joy-Con 2 controllers attach to the sides of the Nintendo Switch 2 Console and can be detached for TV play or for two players. Each has an accelerometer, a gyroscope and a mouse sensor: in games that support it, you slide a Joy-Con 2 across a table, or even your leg, and use it like a computer mouse, which helps with aiming and menu-heavy games.

Each Joy-Con 2 has a 500 mAh battery rated at about 20 hours, with a charging time of about 3.5 hours.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Console has a built-in microphone with noise and echo cancellation, used for GameChat: voice chat with up to 12 people, and screen sharing with up to four friends. With a compatible USB-C camera, sold separately, you can video chat while you play. Nintendo offered GameChat free only for a launch period; it now requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Storage, microSD Express and Your Nintendo Switch Games

Internal storage on the Nintendo Switch 2 Console is 256 GB (UFS), with a portion reserved for the system. To expand it, the Nintendo Switch 2 Console accepts microSD Express cards up to 2 TB. This is important: ordinary microSD cards that are not microSD Express can only be used to copy screenshots and videos from a Nintendo Switch. They cannot hold Switch 2 games. If you are moving from the original Switch, your old card will not work as game storage.

Both Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch game cards fit the game card slot of the Nintendo Switch 2 Console. Nintendo states the console can play compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, and that some Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2, so check a specific older game if it matters to you.

Console Only or a Bundle?

Buying the Nintendo Switch 2 Console on its own makes sense if you already own Nintendo Switch games, if you want to choose your first Switch 2 game yourself, or if the bundled games do not interest you.

If you were going to buy Mario Kart World or Pokémon Legends: Z-A anyway, compare the bundle price with the Nintendo Switch 2 Console plus the game bought separately. Also check the game format: Nintendo’s Pokémon Legends: Z-A bundle includes the game as a full download rather than a game card, and a download cannot be resold or lent like a physical copy.

Not for anyone planning to reuse an ordinary microSD card for games. Game storage needs a microSD Express card.
