Who the Squad camo suits
Squad suits people whose weekends happen outdoors: desert campers, anglers, off-road drivers, scouts and anyone who already owns olive and khaki gear. The pattern is the most forgiving finish in the family. Dust, sand and small scuffs disappear into the camo, so the JBL Clip 5 Squad still looks tidy after a week in the back of a car. It is also an easy gift for a brother or friend who loves camping. After a sandy trip, rinse it under fresh water, which IP67 allows, and let it dry before charging.
Desert camps and long trips
A night in the desert or a weekend in the mountains needs a speaker that does not mind sand. IP67 means the JBL Clip 5 Squad is protected against dust as well as water, and the integrated carabiner hooks onto a tent loop, a camp chair or a roof-rack strap. Sound and app
JBL fits the Clip 5 with one driver and a passive radiator, and quotes 7W of output with a dynamic frequency response of 95 Hz to 20 kHz. JBL does not publish the driver size or say whether the 7W is RMS. In the open air, the JBL Clip 5 Squad is right for a small group sitting close; a larger gathering is better served by a second unit. The JBL Portable app offers EQ presets, a custom EQ and firmware updates.
Size, materials and box
The speaker measures 8.6 × 13.5 × 4.6 cm and weighs 285 g, so it hangs from a pack without pulling it out of shape. A full charge takes about 3 hours over USB-C. JBL says the grille uses post-consumer recycled plastic and fabric, and the packaging is FSC-certified paper printed with soy ink. In the box are the speaker, a USB-C cable, a quick start guide, and a warranty card with a safety sheet; there is no wall adapter.
Who This Is Not For
The JBL Clip 5 Squad is not a speakerphone, as JBL lists no microphone. Older PartyBoost-only JBL speakers cannot join it, since multi-speaker play runs on Auracast. JBL lists no 3.5 mm input. The camo pattern is not to everyone’s taste in a living room, and 7W will not cover a large outdoor event on its own.
