Auracast is the Bluetooth broadcast standard JBL now uses for multi-speaker play. Two Clip 5 speakers can be paired as a left-right stereo set, and the JBL Clip 5 Black can also join other JBL speakers that support Auracast to spread the same music across a larger space. Many owners pair a black unit with a second colour from the same family, since the colour does not affect pairing.
Battery, Playtime Boost and charging
JBL quotes up to 12 hours of playtime on a single charge. Playtime Boost adds up to 3 more hours by tuning the speaker’s performance, which is why the spec sheet lists a 15-hour maximum. A full recharge of the JBL Clip 5 Black takes about 3 hours over USB-C, and a USB-C cable is in the box (a wall adapter is not). Who This Is Not For
The JBL Clip 5 Black is not a speakerphone: JBL lists no microphone in its specifications, so do not count on it for calls. Multi-speaker play works through Auracast only, so older JBL speakers that offer PartyBoost but not Auracast cannot join. JBL lists no 3.5 mm audio input, so every source has to connect over Bluetooth. And 7W suits small and medium spaces, not a big outdoor party.
