The JBL Live Beam 3 are closed-stick noise cancelling earbuds whose headline feature is the case: the Smart Charging Case has a 1.45-inch touchscreen that controls music, calls, noise cancelling and more without unlocking your phone. Inside each earbud is a 10 mm dynamic driver, backed by True Adaptive Noise Cancelling and six beamforming microphones for calls. JBL rates the earbuds at up to 12 hours per charge with ANC off and up to 48 hours with the case, with IP55 dust and water resistance. This is the Black colourway, the most understated of the four.

A touchscreen on the charging case
The case of the JBL Live Beam 3 carries a 1.45-inch touchscreen. From it you can play, pause and skip tracks, accept, reject or mute calls, change volume and EQ, switch between noise cancelling and ambient sound, read message notifications, use Find My Buds, toggle auto play and pause, and set your own wallpaper. JBL also lists spatial sound controls on the screen. In daily use the case works as a remote: the phone can stay in a bag at the gym or on a charger at your desk while you control everything from the case in your hand. The case talks to the phone over Bluetooth 5.1, separately from the earbuds.
True Adaptive Noise Cancelling and calls
The JBL Live Beam 3 use four noise-sensing microphones for True Adaptive Noise Cancelling, which keeps adjusting to the sound around you, whether that is a metro carriage, an open office or an airport gate. Ambient Aware and TalkThru let outside sound in when you need to hear traffic, an announcement or a colleague. For calls, six beamforming microphones focus on your voice. Multipoint keeps the earbuds connected to two Bluetooth devices, so a call on the phone can interrupt a video on the laptop without re-pairing.
Battery life with its conditions
JBL’s spec sheet gives three per-charge figures for the JBL Live Beam 3: up to 12 hours with ANC off, up to 10 hours with ANC on, and up to 9 hours with True Adaptive ANC. With the case, the total is up to 48 hours with ANC off (12 + 36); JBL does not publish a total with ANC on. Talk time is up to 6 hours with ANC off and up to 5 hours with ANC on. A 10-minute Speed Charge over USB-C adds about 4 hours of playback, a full charge from empty takes 2 hours, and the case also charges on a wireless pad.
Sound: 10 mm drivers, Spatial Sound and Personi-Fi
The JBL Live Beam 3 use 10 mm dynamic drivers with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz and 16 ohm impedance. JBL Spatial Sound offers presets for movies, music and games, and Personi-Fi 3.0 builds a listening profile around your own hearing. The JBL Headphones app adds noise control settings, a fit check, earbud location, voice assistant choice and gesture customisation. Bluetooth profiles are A2DP 1.4, AVRCP 1.6.2 and HFP 1.8 on Bluetooth 5.3.
Black: the low-key colourway
Black is the understated choice for the JBL Live Beam 3: black stems and a black case frame the bright touchscreen, so the screen stands out while the shell hides scuffs from keys and daily commuting. It works with office wear and gym kit alike and does not draw attention in a meeting. If you would rather have colour, the same earbuds come in Silver, Blue and Purple with identical specifications. Wipe the case screen with a soft dry cloth to keep fingerprints off it.
Who This Is Not For
At 72 g and 61 x 51 x 30.25 mm, the JBL Live Beam 3 case is heavier and thicker than most earbud cases, so it is less pocket-friendly. JBL does not publish a total battery figure with ANC on, and True Adaptive ANC drops a single charge to 9 hours. IP55 covers dust and water jets, not swimming. JBL advertises Hi-Res Audio Wireless but does not name the codec, such as LDAC, on its spec sheet. If you do not care about a screen on the case, a simpler model costs less.
