Scarlet Nexus PS4 is an action RPG from BANDAI NAMCO, built by BANDAI NAMCO Studios and released in June 2021. It is set in a future where a psionic hormone gives some people extra-sensory powers, and strange mutant creatures called the Others fall from the sky to attack humanity. Gifted psionics are recruited into the Other Suppression Force (OSF) to fight back. You choose one of two recruits, Yuito Sumeragi or Kasane Randall, and each has their own skills and their own version of the story. It is a one-player game with no online mode, so it plays fully offline once installed.

The world and the story
The game takes place in a stylised near-future city where brain science has changed everything. Psionics with powers like teleportation, invisibility or pyrokinesis are trained by the OSF, and the Others are a constant threat that drops from the sky without warning. The writing team was led by Takumi Miyajima, and the presentation leans heavily on an anime style, with dialogue scenes between missions that build the relationships inside the squad. Scarlet Nexus PS4 tells a long, twisting story about who the Others really are and what the OSF is hiding, and seeing it all means playing through both protagonists.
Two heroes, two stories
Yuito Sumeragi is a new OSF recruit from a respected family who wants to become an elite psionic; he fights with psychokinesis and a sword. Kasane Randall was orphaned by an Others raid as a child, adopted by the Randall family and scouted by the OSF at 12; she combines psychokinesis with sharpened throwing knives. In Scarlet Nexus PS4 the two paths cross and split at different points, so a second run as the other hero shows scenes and answers you did not see the first time. That gives the game real replay value for players who enjoy story-heavy RPGs.
Psychokinesis combat
Combat is fast and built around psychokinesis. You lift, break and throw parts of the environment, such as cars, girders and debris, and chain those throws into combos with your melee attacks. Larger objects in the scene can be used for heavier attacks, which turns each arena into something you read and use rather than just a backdrop. Scarlet Nexus PS4 rewards switching between close-range hits and thrown objects instead of mashing one button, and each enemy type pushes you to vary the order you use them in.
Bonds: borrowing your team’s powers
The other squad members are not only story characters. As you build bonds with them, you gain access to their powers in battle, which add effects to your own attacks: setting enemies on fire, turning invisible, slowing time or seeing hidden foes, depending on the character. Bonds grow through events between missions, so spending time with the team has a direct effect on how you fight. In Scarlet Nexus PS4 this link between story and combat is one of the main reasons the squad feels like part of the game rather than just a menu of buffs.
Playing on PS4 and PS5
This is the PlayStation 4 version. It plays on any PS4 or PS4 Pro, and according to PlayStation it is also playable on PS5 through backwards compatibility, though PlayStation notes that some PS4 features may be absent on PS5. A separate native PS5 version exists; this listing is for the PS4 disc. Scarlet Nexus PS4 supports Remote Play. PlayStation lists English and Japanese voices, with on-screen text in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish; Arabic is not listed.
Who This Is Not For
Scarlet Nexus PS4 is not for anyone looking for online co-op or multiplayer: it is strictly one player. It carries a PEGI 16 rating for violence, so it does not suit younger children. Players who dislike long anime-style dialogue scenes between missions may find the pacing slow. There is no Arabic voice or text, and PS5 owners who want the native PS5 version should pick that edition instead.
