A finish that reads like an accessory
Cosmic Silver gives the buds and the case a light, reflective metallic sheen that changes with the light. It is the colour for people who treat earbuds as part of what they wear: it sits naturally next to a steel watch, a silver ring or a silver or titanium phone, and it looks at home at the office, a dinner or a wedding as much as on the metro. The trade-off is that a light metallic surface shows fingerprints and pocket lint sooner than a dark one, so the Beats Studio Buds Plus Cosmic Silver benefit from a quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid solvents and abrasive cloths on the finish.
Noise cancelling and Transparency
Beats lists up to 1.6x more Active Noise Cancelling and up to 2x improved Transparency for the Studio Buds +, both relying on microphones Beats says are three times larger. In practice, ANC is the mode for a flight, a bus or an open-plan office, and Transparency is for walking outside or talking to a cashier without taking the earbuds out. A long press on the button on either bud switches between the listening modes, so you do not need the phone for it. Both modes work the same on the Beats Studio Buds Plus Cosmic Silver as on every other colour.
Battery life with its conditions
Beats gives two sets of figures. With ANC and Transparency off: up to 9 hours from the earbuds and up to 36 hours in total with the case. With ANC or Transparency on: up to 6 hours from the earbuds and up to 24 hours in total. When the buds are low, a 5-minute Fast Fuel charge gives up to 1 hour of playback. The case charges over USB-C and a USB-C to USB-C cable is in the box; the power adapter is sold separately. Beats does not offer wireless charging on this case. A full day of commuting with ANC on is well within reach of the Beats Studio Buds Plus Cosmic Silver when you top up in the case.
Calls, sound and spatial audio
For calls, the Beats Studio Buds Plus Cosmic Silver use voice-targeting microphones to filter background noise so your voice comes through from a busy street or café. Each bud has a custom two-layer transducer; Beats does not publish the driver size. Beats lists spatial audio for Dolby Atmos content, but it does not mention head tracking for this model. Class 1 Bluetooth gives extended range, which helps when the phone is in a bag or a jacket on a chair. Controls are one multi-function button per side: one press to play, pause or answer, two to skip, three to go back.

Each earbud weighs 5.0 g and measures 2.05 x 1.85 x 1.5 cm, and the case is 7.2 x 5.1 x 2.55 cm and 49.0 g, small enough for a trouser pocket. Four silicone ear tip sizes (XS, S, M, L) are included. On iPhone you get one-touch pairing with every device in your iCloud account, hands-free Siri and Find My. On Android, Google Fast Pair connects in one tap, Audio Switch moves the Beats Studio Buds Plus Cosmic Silver between your Android devices, and Find My Device helps locate them.
Who This Is Not For
The Beats Studio Buds Plus Cosmic Silver are not for you if you want wireless charging, because the case charges over USB-C only. Beats rates only the earbuds IPX4 and gives no water rating for the case, and there is no wingtip, so they are not a running earbud for heavy sweat or rain. With ANC on, one charge lasts up to 6 hours, short for a long-haul flight without using the case. Beats does not list head-tracked spatial audio. If you want a finish that never shows fingerprints, Black is the easier colour.
